Some questions:

These things use trucking, right?

Is using them to ship stuff between SS and Elms suicidal?

Armed or unarmed? I was thinking oil jet and mine dropper.

Should I get a box van instead?

How big a fuel tank will I need to get 600 miles (elms and back)?

Thanks!

You can also asses the range of the vehicle from the vehicle tank resize tab

OK, the main reason I wanted to use one was because I have a new trucker I want to train. I guess I'll ship him off to GW to pick up a box van, then. Thanks guys.

Update - does anyone have a 5L engine in GW they'd be willing to sell?

Ahh the Van.

This puppy is not good for cargo runs. It isn't fast enough or armored enough. Unless you arm it, it will get torn up by interceptors on runs. If you arm it, you cut down on the usable space.

Best use I've had for it is a low CR loot transport for scouts. Rear Paintgun and Dropper (spikes/mines/oil), and enough room for extra drivers. This way, you can toss it in without adding a lot of not combat capable CR.

If it gets banged up, they are cheap and easy to replace.

The only way I've ever used cargo vehicles (i.e. box vans) successfully was to have armed escorts run alongside.

I try to keep my cargo vehicles out of heavy combat because their paper-thin armor and poor turn radius and acceleration make them terrible fighters.

Generally I run a couple of Apaches with rear-mounted guns (MMG, HMG or CR according to taste) as defense. My box vans have a couple of rear-mounted MMG - just in case - but I always try to avoid using them: my box vans are perpetually running away from harm while my escorts stay back and cover the escape.

In the long run, I suggest buying a box van to replace your carrier van, but running a carrier van for a while might be a good way to get used to running trade while keeping your losses to an acceptable level if things go pear-shaped.

I used to run box vans, and these days I run a 2-axle lorry. The lorry has two permanent escort vehicles - if there's an encounter, they engage the enemy whilst the lorry runs. In an emergency the lorry is covered in machine guns and has a double reinforced ram at the front - even a relatively low speed impact with this can be an instant kill and I've finished off two battles this way.

box van is trucking skill.. trucking now kicks in at 300 bulk I believe.

I run box vans with 5L from Somerset to Elms or Somerset to Gateway. You'll be guaranteed to outrun anything. Even with exposed engine just make sure your front never faces the enemy.

these boxvans are also unarmed

I've been running a 5L box van between Texan and Shantyville with no probs running away as a general rule.
Armed with a Car Rifle and HMG on the rear and it becomes a pretty reasonable fighting courier - is more fun and can make up for the fact that it has less bulk by grabbing a loot vehicle or 2 in an arrival encounter (avoid fighting exits and road encounters in case something goes wrong).

Do you have a reference for this?

Can confirm that it is trucking skill (if that was in any doubt...), but have no idea at what bulk it kicks in. For Box Van that is.

you cant ask for references for belief marrkos... next you will be asking people to prove god exists!

mikes beliefs are his beliefs.. he has faith! we should respect those beliefs even if science subsequently shows them to be complete hokum  :cyclops:
