"Engine out of date" solution

This solution is only for those who use WinXP. Those who use Vista, just set Darkwind to run as Administrator.

For those of you who keep getting booted out of the game everytime you try to login because it says your Darkwind engine is out of date, and restarting the game (or even the system) doesn't seem to work at all, here's a possible solution which worked for me. After struggling with the game for 2 days, I finally got it to work. Here's how:

1) Go to the Java installation directory in your user directory. By default it's C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\Sun\Java\

2) Go to the deployment > cache folder

3) Delete everything in there

Should work after that. If it doesn't, post back here

Thanks Karz. Yes, the problem here seems to be that some Java installations cache stuff that has been downloaded, and then doesn't bother to re-download a file with the same name.. therefore when a new version of the engine is patched, your Java installation goes "aha, I have that already, no need to download it again.."

Running on Vista 'as administrator' is actually a different issue altogether, Karz. This is Vista's security stopping *anything* from being downloaded unless you're an admin.

Could that be fixed by adding the version number to the end of the downloaded file, then renaming once it finishes? Well, work around more than a fix but you know what I mean.

Yeah, something like that would do the trick.. it's actually zipped anyway so the zip archive could have a unique name the actual .exe inside the zip probably wouldn't need to
