Darkwind
Newbie Squad Recruiting Bonus

Hello,

New DW player here. I read somewhere that the typical rate at which free gangers become available in the tavern is once every 5 days, but new gangs get a bonus to this rate (I presume that means they are available sooner). How often do free gangers come available for newbs? And how long does this bonus last?

Once every 5 days you can recruit a new gang member at no cost. To recruit more members within that 5-day period costs $1000 per character. (The cost does go down as you get closer to the 5 day time limit so you may be able to pick up a new member for less than 1000$)

Free gang members can attain better skill ratings, than those paid for

OK so what you're saying is there is no such thing as a "new gang recruiting bonus."

One of the best ways to build a gang quickly is recruit one person per day. If you wait 24 hours between recruiting, the price drops to $500.

only with the skill attained by leadership Recruiter - increases chances of recruiting gang members with above-average skills/stats, but operates only on your 'free' characters every 5 days, not on more frequent ones that you pay to recruit.

also

Recruitment

Character recruitment takes place at the taverns in the various towns of Evan. Dexter's is the first you'll encounter as it is in Somerset.

Once every 5 days you can recruit a new gang member at no cost. To recruit more members within that 5-day period costs $1000 per character. (The cost does go down as you get closer to the 5 day time limit so you may be able to pick up a new member for less than 1000$)

It is important to note that the characters you will be recruiting lie. If you are recruiting for someone with the Driving skill you will be presented with a list of people who say they have the skill you need. That doesn't mean they actually have that skill.

Until your Fame reaches the triple digits (about 400), you should consider yourself lucky if your new recruit is also honest.
Fame

A high Fame only improves your likelihood of getting an honest character when you are recruiting your 'free' character. Paying to recruit characters negates your Fame advantage (and your Recruiter specialism if you have it).

your best bet is to have a good read of our wiki, as all this information has been taken from there. :D

I believe a new gang can hire several members for free the first time - three or five, I forget - to help them get started.

5, yes.
You'll be quoted a 'price' before you recruit a ganger, so don't worry about not knowing what it's going to cost (if anything).

What's the definition of 'new' in this context?

But I didn't use the word 'new' !

The rule is: the first 5 recruits into a gang are automatically free, no matter how soon they're recruited. The 3 characters you get right at the start are included in this, so really it's only 2 more.

Right you are.  A little cross-quoting/replying there.  I meant the context of getting 5 'free'.

OK, that makes sense. First 5 gangers free. Well I've already lost 4 to various bits of foolishness, and spent $2k on two replacements, to discover my new recruits are (a) a loser with no skills higer than 5, and (b) a "Heavy alcohol user."

I think I'll take advantage of that "$500 after 24 hours" deal to bulk up my gang and see if I can actually find someone with decent skills and keep them alive.

Ah well, all part of the game.

Check your account, Zephyr. I sent you a little cash so you can buy a few gangers quicker, and get back on your feet.

Hey, thanks, Nekojin! I'll stretch it out by waiting a day in between each and paying $500 per person. Meanwhile, I'll see how well my raging alcoholic does on the racetrack. :o

Get yourself into to some community scouts, great way to earn money, Dont attempt solo scouts as yet, wait untill you have some experience behind you. good luck

If you want to solo scout, just give a shout on the lobby for the vets to come spectate and give you some advice. I find solo scouting easier than community scouting though, but that's another story altogether B)
