Ok, newb question from a vet:

How do you keep control the cars you are escorting?

I don't know whether this is a bug I keep getting or normal, but I get the option to set waypoints for them but it only works for the first turn or sometimes the second.

Is this normal?

Also, a message to newbs doing this: They will probably ignore your orders anyway. I once had my lorry rammed by 2 vehicles in one turn, both with reinforced rams. They were both on my side and under orders to drive straight.

I have found that sometimes they will veer off course and it's best to set NEW waypoints for them at that point. If you have them moving somewhat straight and they avoid a collision then their "line" puts them climbing a hill or something. If no ones around they'll try to climb it. If you change the "go here" spot to somewhere AROUND the hill it works better.

Yes, but...

In other words after the first turn or so if I click on one of them I can only "inspect". There are no option to set waypoints.

1) left click the NPC to choose it
2) right click it and choose "take control of movement orders"
3) right click where you want him to go and choose "move here"
4) right click somewhere else and choose "move here" *OR* "waypoint here"

In later turns...

1) left click the NPC to choose it
2) you can see a "line" where you've told him to go
3) right click the terrain and choose "move here" to replace it *OR* "waypoint here" to add it to the end

(I'm going slightly by memory so the quotes are not exact...)
