very hairy but fun scout... but doesnt seem likely these ambushes would happen. 35 vehicles sneak up on 19 vehicles????
Event ID S187336 I think the new code makes ambushes more common.. I am getting more of them now and even with a 90 scout mega scouts are on hold until this gets cleared up |

I can understand that some maps were encountering less ambushes before because the code was not allowing them to work properly, but the amount of ambushes being encountered so far is quite high even taking that fact into consideration.
On top of that, I've already heard of ambushes in which the enemy spawned in at 35m or so, which if true is very bad in my opinion. As for the RP aspects, an ambush is pretty much supposed to be when you encountered an opponent either by scouting or travel, and a few managed to sneak up on you. This could have been due to terrain masking their approach, hidden vehicle caches that were camouflaged to mix with the terrain, or even poor visibility due to weather and environment. The reason a higher scout skill is supposed to bring the odds in your favor is because a better-trained scout will be able to recognize possible enemy hiding spots better, or see other less-than-obvious signs of an approaching enemy such as dust clouds behind a sand dune or a hint of motor roars through the wind. A high scout should also be able to identify enemy factions from a greater distance, therefore allowing better possibilities of a greater starting distance at spawn time. But even with the most retarded of scouts, how is it possible that nobody noticed the enemy cars circling around them closer than 50m? Their engine noises, dust/debris clouds, yells, gunfire, etc would have alerted even a half-deaf and one-eyed gimper at that range. Personally, I like the idea of adding in more ambush options and increasing the available spawn locations. But not so much that it causes problem like we're hearing about now. I know this is all new and had only light testing, so I hope it's looked into and adjusted soon. Like others, I'm not going to be scouting until more adjustments are made. I don't feel like sacrificing my good crews. |

I actually find your thread title quite offensive, mike. You can make your point without being insulting. You know I'll tweak it if necessary. | ||||||||

Lost an ambush against FL Manhunters in Elmsfield. Was a great setup on their part. I was setup well to counter it, but had a car Turtle and my last remaining car get ambushed again at Gates. They did a hell of a job trying to stop me but I managed to escape, and destroy all but 1 point of my own armor on the bridge.

I've typed and retyped this post about 6 or 7 times now trying to figure out how to say what I'm thinking, I cant put it into a cohearant thought so here I'll just spew what my brain is thinking
1) I like this new risk, it makes things interesting. 2) I dislike the frequency that this is happening, 3 of 3 scouts outside of SS ending up as an ambush, where the front cars are 30m away, the trailing cars are 100+m away. 3) got an ambush at gates at BL, an ambush on the road in tex, and an ambush at the gates on the return in Tex. 4) I dont like getting ambushed going out AND ambushed on the return. It's really annoying! 5) I thought we as a community wanted to encourage people to leave SS? Ambushes on every scout at these ranges are going to completely dissuade people from leaving SS!. I have 2 bpus in texan, and a buzzer in BL... I cant afford to lose them! It took me MONTHS to save to buy them! The faction patches come out and I start seeing a drop in the quality of loot! (I cant substantiate this) now this!? =( There is so much risk here, and so little reward. It makes it impossible for a new player, and nearly impossible for a nearly new player to try and leave SS! =( I understand that things need to be hard to be interesting, but man, it just feels like I'm getting bludgeoned over the head with a cast iron pan right now! I will keep playing if you keep the code this way sam... I enjoy this game too much... The game just went from really hard, to Really Really Really Hard. |

Trying to address various points raised.
The loot you get on a scout was not affected in any way by the new rep system as far as I know. The level of opposition in a scout is always variable, considering it is based on various interacting factors. So a few examples shouldn't be enough to put people off scouting completely. The ambush spawns are not a reflection of reality but a game mechanic. If the new ones are found to be too hard then I am sure Sam will make the required adjustments. Some of the issues arising from spawns (ambush and otherwise) are also currently under discussion in the RC. A player leaving SS should treat scouting somewhere else much the same as they treated starting scouting in SS. Tag along with reliable squadmates in the same boat as you and/or go with more experienced players - don't be afraid to ask for advice - this community is certainly not backward in giving advice. |

Not only that, but I think Sam is the only one who can declare something official. I have some time to play tonight, and plan to put my 250+ scout in a buggy outside Somerset. If she gets ambushed I know something's wrong. |

Mad Mike Posted Mar 12, 2010, 12:31 am |
did actually think twice about the title...
anyway I can believe that the pirates have their cars in holes and they pop up out at you so it could be possibly true how they ambush you so closely. I just cant mega scout into ambushes like that. the lorrys are too much at risk for that. I already make sure they are placed in the center of the spawn circle from previous losses by putting them at the edge and that spot being right in front of a close enemy... my apologies sam, feel free to change the title of the thread |

No worries mike, I probably over-reacted too It gets my back up a bit when I spend time coding stuff and then get abuse for it. I'm only human! BTW I'm putting in some extra checks and balances to stop these spawns from happening like that in future.. |

Reactions like this (and mine) to the ambush changes, just show us one thing: when something people love gets messed with, in a way they believe hinders THEIR idea of that something, they get all uppity and sometimes speak without thinking.
Even though we're pissed, it's a compliment to this thing Sam has created that even though we ARE pissed...guess what? ...we're still here!! If I didn't love it, I wouldn't give a chit and would just stop playing, as with every other game I've ever stopped playing. Thanks for the efforts by everyone to make this game better every day. (except for the jackass closer in/farther out idiocy and those who support it) Can't wait to see what comes out of the discourse. While scary and frustrating as my 'new ambush' encounter was, it was still fun. (where the f*** is my loot screen??? I want my StrongArm!) Anyway, my apologies for getting carried away at times. |

havent tested to see if new ambushes are calmed down.
but changes to the game just means a new playstyle. Although if the new ambushes are more often then mortars and completely useless although we can still mega scout with more heavily armed apaches |

The posts concerning them seem to have subsided, whether this is due to the roll back, or maybe people getting used to the new spawns. Hopefully the ambushes have calmed. |
