Those who know me here as EnglishRanger know I am currently deployed in Afghanistan. Recently we had one of our team killed in action here. SFC Jake Whetten was a great soldier, NCO, father and friend.
He will be greatly missed.

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."

Dammit, sorry to hear that Ranger. Always sad to lose a friend. At least he died in the line of duty, which is always noble. :(

Damn.

It's always hard when one of your own goes down.

He and all of you serving have this old Marine's full respect and gratitude. You boys take care of yourselves out there. Do the job and get your butts back home.

My thoughts are with you and your families.

Rest in Peace SFC Jake Whetten.

There's a graveyard in northern France where all the dead boys from D-Day are buried. The white crosses reach from one horizon to the other. I remember looking it over and thinking it was a forest of graves. But the rows were like this, dizzying, diagonal, perfectly straight, so after all it wasn't a forest but an orchard of graves. Nothing to do with nature, unless you count human nature. -- Barbara Kingsolver

R.I.P. and here's to hoping we can evolve.
