based on what skills? any?
where would you put the limit, so as to not have a whole gang famous, which would look banal & wrong imo. |

No, he is implying that there is the possibility, especially since gangers have far more survivability than vehicles.

I'd like for this to be included - right now it's just my imagination (I.E I consider some of my long time DRs/Racers famous - particularly after winning well participated events or ending the career of someone I hate lol)

It'd be extra-excellent if this was a thing that came about mostly due to arena and pro events, as Joel is saying.

Could be a "Most Famous of the Week" in the gazette

What would be the tangible benefits of owning a famous characters?
How would these interact with vehicle fame and other considerations? (e.g. a famous character in a famous vehicle) |

*Ninesticks* Posted Jul 29, 2010, 8:38 pm |
Does it need to have tangible effects? Not sure it does, but it would make for a fun table to see on the Gazette.

If we're talking gazette, I have a better idea, total kills |

Well, the nice thing about it being pro event and league related is that those events are limited enough that players couldn't grind out their fame as they can with wilderness scouts.

Free food for that gangster? protection from local thugs for that gangster(when your gang is unpopular) or like you said some revenues from advertising, either money every week, bonus for pro races (cuts from bettings), free hardware from shops (that advertise on your car) for town events once in a whiles: free reloads free engine tune for scouts free get out of FL card?, trucing bonus (if small squad, i.e. 1 car unless everyone is famous lol) |

No benefit/effect in game whatsoever, in my opinion. (Except more chicks) ((If Sam can code that, Nerd heaven has arrived...lol)) |

Lord Foul Posted Jul 30, 2010, 12:18 am |
If there are no tangible effects, then there's no point in having a little title added to your name. What you do "in" the game against other players makes you famous/hated. |

*Ninesticks* Posted Jul 30, 2010, 1:10 am |
Well there's a certain amount of competition between people and I think it would be just there for fun. After all having a famous pro race car doesn't really bring any tangible benefits, it's just a form of reward and recognition for remarkable game play. We can all RP up how famous our drivers are etc, I think it is sometimes nice for the game to give a somewhat independent feedback for everyone to enjoy, try to beat etc.
I would much prefer to see something like this in the gazette than a random ganger from a random gang. |

Alrighty, I’m not against the idea but some questions would need to be answered if the pieces of the puzzle would actually work. Also remember that there’s XXX other ideas that Sam has on an infinite suggestion list that would add something more substantial to the game than something added just for fun. If Sam had a staff of developers to help work on little things like this I’d be all for this happening if it could be done properly.
How would a racer become famous? Number of events played or wins? I would hope not played, doing 500 races does not make you famous. Wins would be the best way. How would a deathracer become famous? Number of kills or wins? If you say yes to kills, think for a moment how many NPCs/players you’ve killed in pro deathraces with one character you have used the most. Was the death caused by your character or simply bad AI driving. I rarely see players kill other players/NPCs in deathrace events and even if they do it’s maybe one NPC per event. Most of the time the player/npc kills themselves due to bad driving. If it’s for Pro events only, it would take a very very long time for a character to become famous at the current pro event spawn rate. Sam would have change that too as was suggested in other threads. The best way would be for both to be based on wins and a bonus would be given for each additional player involved in the pro race/deathrace. If it is scouts as well, we’ll see a lot of characters become famous on just kills from wilderness scouts. Would it look right to have 100’s of characters become famous from just killing npc’s in the wilderness? Seems like you’d be getting double the fame for the scout, fame for your car and fame for your character(s). As someone else mentioned, this would be best for in town pro events only. |

What if arena famousness won that character bonus training form in a related skill, like driver, gunner, etc.?
Essentially you'd be attracting extra great coaches, mechanics and what have you. |

I can't disagree with that sentiment, still if Sam feels like doing somethin a little more light hearted this wouldn't be a bad project. I would certainly agree that it shouldn't be way up the list.
Placing well in th the race perhaps, maybe the top three earn varying levels of fame, and as you suggest modified by player participation. Same for deathraces too come to think of it. Certainly not for wilderness events, though I am quite tempted to suggest peds doing damage to cars should get some.
Absolutely. |
