Darkwind
IT'S OUT!!!, Monday Night Combat

Jety

Posted Aug 13, 2010, 12:43 am
At long last, the game I've been helping develop for the last 18 months has been released. Monday Night Combat is available on Xbox Live Arcade. If you're an Xbox gamer (which I know most of you aren't) please download the demo and give it a whirl! Otherwise find a friend with and Xbox and check it out.

The uses vary depending on the age of the user. In your case, it's a fancy paperweight.

For everybody that gets the RRoD it is a fancy paperweight.

Funnily enough my XBox has always been fine. It's the PS3 and the Wii that have had to be replaced.

Hey Jety, I hear it's coming to PC. Do you guys have any plans to bring it to other distributors too, like retail, Gamersgate, Impulse, D2D?

WooHoo! As you've seen, we finally made it to PC via Steam. We have a beta going on right now which means you can play, but we're still working through some bugs.

If anyone is dying to play but can't afford the $15 price tag let me know. I may be able to rustle up a couple download codes.

What's wrong with Steam?

In spite of Darkwind being my favourite game, I am a sucker for advanced/sophisticated reflex- and precision-based combat and melee mechanics. What's the fighting like, Jety? Congrats on the release, for it looks truly nice ;)

Not normally my 'thing' in games, but since one of us made it...just purchased it and will give it a try. I'm interested in the 'game show' aspect. Hoping for fun.

Don't think I'll be doing it online or anything so I'm hoping the solo play is fun.

high hopes! gratz! you got cash out of me! Now where're the haxx and cheats!??

:D

Nothing, just that every single game is tied to potential liabilities of an Internet-based user-made account, and in which the end user only possesses a limited extent of ownership of said account, and therefore games.

I prefer to be given the option to copy my games to physical media in case the excretion hits the fan, or at least not having my gaming capacity (in general, i.e. all my games on Steam) to be constrained by a third party company and its app that should, in practice, not be able to intrude in any of my gaming-related activities at all :cyclops:

In other words, while Steam is convenient, I am uncomfortable with the surveillance/user monitoring features of Steamworks, and Steam in general. I have no issues with people buying games from Steam, but it is essentially a rental system with an indefinite rental date, because your rights to access a game are strictly governed by Steam's mechanics, as opposed to traditional physical media and certain digital distributors. Doesn't mean that I abstain from Steam entirely, but I try where possible to buy from outlets that are DRM-free.

I'm not here to debate on Steam's benefits/flaws, but since you asked, that's just my opinion ;)

Well, you've got my 10 euro, since it did get a PC version, anyone else picking it up?

Very tempted. As soon as next paycheck comes a-rollin', I'll probably do it, in spite of the knowledge that I only have a few hours each week to spend on games, and that I will be spending those on Darkwind ;)

steam isn't that bad. It is a simpler version of age of steam.

And you can play the original game on the steam gameboard....

Offcourse these versions are DRM free ;-)

Yeah pretty much this. I'm a sucker for a 75-90% off.

Problem is you wind up buying a lot of stuff for the reason that "It's only 4 bucks, I mean, how can I not buy it"...

And end up never playing them much

I pretty much play most things only once, but I figure I pay more than $4 for a cup of coffee so whatever.

Yeah, but if I can help it, I'd get it at an equivalent or lower price elsewhere, and get more bang out of my buck too with less DRM ;)

That's why I'm hoping it comes to Gamersgate. I <3 Gamersgate. Their tech support is ace, very friendly and efficient. They also have regular sales - 92 games on sale this week that are up to 75% off. Plus, they have Blue Coins, which is a token reward system that lets you redeem games. Everytime you buy a game, 5% of the game's cost goes to you in the form of Blue Coins. To date, I have accumulated about $22 worth of coins :D

Well Karz, cant say most of the games on sale there look very interesting... then again, I can take not interesting for 2 bucks... or as the page is in swedish for me...

19 crowns... the price of a 2l coke, hah :p

Yeah last week's sales are a letdown. They're updating the page now with this week's sales.

Yeah, it was 20 minutes left when I checked last time, will have another look when I wake up, will be fun to compare to the steam sales.

I'm dying to try it out, saw his original post about 6 months back, looked great. I need a quick fix/fun game. Steam always throws me off a bit, but in this case I might make an exception.
FireFly

Posted Dec 20, 2010, 4:39 pm
Yup, I've played it a bit, it's fun, not to deep, but it's fun, and that's all that matters!

Assassin is definitely the most fun to play, backstabbing :D

I just checked the steam page, it says the beta will be available soon If I pre-register. So the beta is actually available and the web site is a bit out of date?

I guess I should just go do it huh
