I still gotta watch season 4 before I move on to season 5. Gotta find somebody to borrow it off first though.

There was a series on a while ago on bbc1 that i quite enjoyed. I think it was called survivors? Some massive epidemic had hit the scene and there's only a few people left, sorta thing
*Wolfsbane*

Posted Dec 7, 2010, 6:40 pm
Was that the one where they survive because they're on a train stuck in a tunnel?

'Modern Family' is pretty funny, especially if you like Seinfield-esque situational comedy or The IT Crowd.

Go back...

American Gothic..another brilliant series cancelled too soon.

Space 1999...some surprisingly good stories (ok and some awful ones too :p )...just try and ignore the special effects.

Old Doctor Who stuff....anything pre-Peter Davidson is pretty much excellent.

Babylon 5....plenty there to keep you busy.

Saphire and Steel...very, VERY funky series..(disclaimer - haven't seen it it in a LONG time so maybe rose-tinted glasses syndrome on my part ;) )

There's Supernatural, two brothers who hunt demons and monsters, kind of horror'y, some good suspense episodes, some episodes are more "jack in the box" horror, but I like it..

Been recommended Carnivāle, but haven't seen it yet, about carnies during the great depression, with some mythical elements in it as well.

Could recommend some anime, but I tend not to do that if people don't specifically ask for it :)

Big Bang theory is free on nbc.com but it's a sitcom, not sure its what you want

in a very different vein theres Sealab 2021 (not 2020), space ghost coast to coast

Carnivale was awesome, but cancelled before you got to the meat of the plot...

Dark Angel an oldy but goody was fun season 1, but season 2 was mostly a waste of time.

If you like House you might like Lie to Me, Leverage, Bones, or maybe Prison Break.

Lie to me is excellent.
If comedy is your thing Rules of engagement, how I met you mother (watch at least 4 episodes), Big Bang Theory.

I'm watching a series called Lost Girl mainly for Anna Silk's spectacular rack but also as it has it's non-breast related good points.

I'm praying they do Game of Thrones justice. I'm hopeful because HBO has proved themselves in the past. Event is good. There's a sci-fi mini-series called The Lost Room that was good. Dark Angel was one of my favorites. I like the new V and the 2nd season starts early in Jan.

Reruns of "Beauty And The Beast" might be Grograt's cup 'o tea.

Linda Hamilton is hot in that, and Ron Perlman.....makes Grog look pretty in comparison.... :p

Jericho is a nice post apoc series.
there is also sci fi offcourse:
- farscape --> best sci fi ever
- Star Trek TNG: what can i say... Picard is the best captain
- the outer limits: was on TV the same time as the X-files but i liked this show better
- Red Dwarf: monty python in space
- Mystery Science Theater 3000: comic B-movie horror show
- sliders: aired on the BBC in the early 90's. I watched this as a kid with my dad
- Quantum Leap: Aired on the BBC in the early 80's. I watched this as a kid with my dad
-Earth: Final Conflict: i never say the last episodes, but the first 2 seasons are good. Created by "star trek" Gene Roddenberry

Jericho just stops so suddenly, stupid network officials and their cancellation stick!

Season 3 is coming out as a comic though, so it's possible to get the ending eventually, I believe they said they'd release the entire season 3 comic as one book in may next year though, looking forward to that :)

i believe helping people avoid the delusion that you know what you are talking about when itr comes to science fiction and wasting their time following your suggestions is a valuable contribution.

Don't know if you still need suggestions but here it goes:

Breaking Bad: A high school chemistry teacher finds out he has terminal cancer and decides to make as much money as possible to ease his family's future after his passing... by using his knowledge of chemistry to make crystal meth.

Modern Family: Mentioned higher up by someone else. VERY funny show in the "Arrested Development" style. One funny misunderstanding after another.

Arrested Development: Cancelled after three seasons, but managed to gather a dedicated following nonetheless. The story revolves around the family of a crooked American contractor in hiding for selling cheap housing to the Iraqis during the Gulf War. Absolutely hilarious!

Sopranos: Maybe a bit dated, but certainly worth your time if you haven't watched it yet. Although the tribulations of the mafioso family and associates are somewhat conventional in a Godfatheresque tradition, I was very pleased by how frankly they touched on real-life personal struggles.

Reminder -Game of thrones this Sunday on HBO (in US)

Also, just watched the original Stargate SG-1 entire series. 10 seasons, 122 episodes, with 2 movies after the fact(Series based on a movie also). Everything is free on Netflix streaming if your a member. Season 1 started slow for me, but overall the 10 seasons were pretty good.

looking forward to game of thrones a lot.

Just finishing up the wire.

what a bloody excellent series

and we hate cop shows normally.

The Wire is excellent television.

Deadwood is worth your time-- once you get desensitized to the profanity, it has a very poetic quality to the dialog. Almost Shakespearian. I still owe David Milch a ####punch for abandoning the project.

I enjoyed the BBC production Survivors (deadly flu kills 99% of the world population in 2 weeks-- underlying plot of company/government that caused catastrophe).

Rescue Me was interesting but not great. Gets a little preachy in the 'Thank god for the FDNY department sometimes but it's pretty classic Denis Leary playing a sarcastic drunk mick (IOW himself).

Spartacus (blood and sand/Gods of the arena) is a little soft core porn at times but has an interesting story in between the sex and rape.

I second Lie To Me, though I hear that the 3rd season isn't that great.

Also, if you haven't watched 24, it's still damn worth watching. This and Spartacus are two shows that any alpha male must watch.

d0dger mentioned Leverage, also a really good one. Very charming, never boring.

Some older ones to note would be Firefly and Wonderfalls.

I actually turned of after 40 mins

pander to the lowest denominator

Soft porn and a look reminiscent of zena and all those other crap TV shows from the 90s

highly didsapointed

I loved it. :D

I love game of thrones except for the HBO soft porn waste of minutes (yeah some of it is good sex scenes, but that not why were are watching this show - hbo needs to get a clue).

Some amazing acting is compensating for some glazing on the original story. The girl that plays Danery's is amazing and I think a relative unknown. Sean Bean lays down an amazing foundation for the whole cast to launch off of. Dinklage plays Tyrion to perfection (my fav character) I wonder if he knew he was getting the GEM role...

I second Groove's:

Breaking Bad - Gritty school teacher's dive into the drug underworld. Hooks you in.

Arrested Developement - I seem to enjoy this show more everytime i watch it.

---

I Started watching Game of Thrones, but not having read the books, I feel as though I'm missing a level of enjoyment there.

I really enjoyed Carnivale', it's another one that'll hook you in. But, if you like it, you'll be disapointed knowing it was cancelled before it was finished. Kind of a bummer in my opinion.

Just watched "Kidnapped" on Netflix streaming. Well worth the time. Another series that ended too quickly, however the 13 episodes complete the story so you wont be left in limbo and the way the series was designed it ends the way it was written(it was supposed to the season to solve the case and start a new one the next year.)

There's a new show about Zombies, Vampires, and Werewolves, who live side by side with humans in LA. A special police unit was formed to keep them in line. It's damn funny!

It's called Death Valley and it's on MTV.
