One of my gang mates was captures and taken to FL. I've fought and survived in one battle so far but his fame has not increased.

How do I increase his fame? Or is it better to just ditch him as he's only a couple weeks old?

I quite often ditch ones with no skill. They only get fame from actually hitting creatures, just being in the combat doesn't gain them anything. For this reason it is sometimes useful to have extra gangers added in a glad event that are free from slavery, they will cause extra bugs to spawn that the slave can shoot for fame, and if need be they can cover the slave if there are too many bugs for him to handle.

The amount of gladiator fame given to your character is directly proportional to the amount of damage you inflict on your opponents (players or creatures) during events. It is not sufficient to enter a gladiator event and avoid combat.

True, my one Gladiator fight was one where other people who signed up did not show up...or got killed early.  My Gladiator shot all the bugs herself and was released right after the fight - 500+ fame in one fight cause she shot 9 ganger's worth of bugs.

Should have shot 9 gangers' worth of gangers instead ;)

That may be the issue.  They took my gangers' gear when captured so I had to buy a shotgun in town.  Strangely the other two gangers I hired were using rifles in the fight... when they only had shotguns in their inventory.  So needless to say the rifle gangers were able to kill the snakes a lot easier then the prisoner wit the shotgun.

the guns you get in the event are given to you by the pit... randomly each time

Think Roman Gladiator fodder.

"You, meat sack-- take this *reaches into box* shotgun and get out there. NEXT! you, pissbag, take this *reaches into box* crossbow and get out there"

Rinse and repeat.
