Notice a new guy pop through today, ask around, no reply for him, so he bugged out.

I wrote this up for him, and maybe others can use this too, if you see someone new and you were too late to give em some pointers, copy and paste this into a PM and send it too them.

Nothing special, just real basic stuff. Have I missed anything important, probably, tag on as needed, add here so we can edit the basic PM structure, whatever.. Help them noobs

First off, Play the Tutorial; button in the Game client, will go through the basics.

You will noticed there are two sections to the game, the Client, where you can chat and all games are played, the main game element, and the Web page, where you make your gang, train them, buy/sell/modify vehicles (for subscribers), use towns... lots of stuff there.. all the micromanagement is done in the web page.

Some other tips that might be useful:

First off, Check your email you submitted on registration, there should be a few emails there with information on how to get going.

Races and death races

You will see events under the chat box, Upcoming events and Live events tabs... under upcoming events, look for a race, or click the create race button down bellow, you will need to register for the event, add a driver, and then wait for the event to start... they are all timed to give a chance for other players to join.

Read the Wiki pages, there is a starter guide by Procyon, very useful.

Ask in the lobby for any help, and please be patient, players may be in games or away from the Keyboard (AFK notes in lobby) so may not see your requests straight away.... Look for players names with * around the name * these are Marshals, they are there to help you.

Hope you enjoy the game, a big learning curve at the start, but you will soon find what you need and be shooting up the Pirate gangs on the track in no time.

Good Luck,

If you're brand new, and you try to talk to folks in the lobby without getting a response, it's likely that they're on the web pages fussing with their gang, or perhaps in an event. You'll see what I mean within your first hour or so in the game. Sometimes the lobby chat is hopping, sometimes it's as empty as a late season Florida Marlins game. It's not personal; give it a few minutes and try again.

One thing we used to do (and it seems many do still) is just give a "Hi, *new player name*, welcome to DW" whenever they see the "*new player name * is a new player" message come up. I'm guardedly confident that happened to me the first time I stumbled into the lobby; was a very, very nice thing to see.

New players, Darkwind is difficult, beautiful, alive, frustrating, and wonderfully addicting. You will feel as awful as you've ever felt in a game when you lose the assets most precious to you (and you will lose them,) and those feelings will be overshadowed when you finally gain a specialism for a certain ganger or aquire a certain piece of equipment you've coveted. Which, of course, you will subsequently lose, and so on.

The most valuable things you'll aquire here, though, are the stories. Look through the forums and you'll see them retold: the epic scouts, the narrow escapes, the spectacular failures. You'll make friends and rivals (often one in the same), and share the experience with them. For these reasons, Darkwind will reward your patience and persistance more than any game I've ever seen.

Hell's bells- didn't mean to get all sentimental like that. Either way, welcome to Darkwind.

When I started playing this game I didn't look at the chat, I have been playing games with very bad community so I just ignored it. Before I chatted to people I failed 2 scouts and 3 of my gangers were killed, so I was about to quit. Then one day I just looked to chat and saw how polite people were toward each others, so I decided to chat a little. It ended up so that I subbed instantly and now I have been playing for sometime.

Thank you all for being so nice toward me.
Sincerely Zainiax.

hehe, I remember a colourful fray on the road to Elms. 80s and I had way to much cactus juice at Dexters before we rolled out, FireFly was throwing burning vehicles all over the place, and here comes this madman Splashing through a bunch of cars with his Ram Phoenix... I thought, 'man, that guys InZain!' ;)

Nice to make your acquaintance.
