Thank you for your hard work on this Bast.

Question, will this track be in a testing phase until it goes live? I noticed your morgan tracks appear to still be in a testing phase even though they've been in the game quite a while.

Thanks ;)

Having raced on the new track in 4L colts, it's damn fun. The bumps are a little extreme but they're avoidable. Can get up over 200mph easily. Cars with higher powered engines would likely top out at 245mph at some parts of the track.

Love it.

It is bumpy..but maybe that's good.  I personally would not risk a top driver on this track so it could be a bit of a equalizer.

I think Bast is planning on smoothing the track a bit more. A proper technical speed circuit would be awesome.
*Bastille*

Posted Feb 3, 2013, 12:40 pm
yeah, the bumps have come out a bit deeper than I expected.

These are washouts and cracked tarmac, but at the moment a car can burry its nose in there bretty bad. I busted up a 5Lv12 and broke an arm earlier today in testing. could stick to the corners at 247 in a Mkenzie though.

A new version of this track has been patched in. Awesome new lighting (big thanks to Bastille for all the work that he put into this) and with a special 'rolling start' system: most vehicles should start at 80mph. Those with 'super low gears' (i.e. offroad buggy, wurzel) will start at 50mph

It's too tame now, you've let yourself go shoelace. Looks more Somerset-ish now & I love the rolling start, but where's the dragon teeth in the middle of the racing line?

Just watched the first live race, it's odd seeing 3.2l voyagers go above 200mph. Unfortunately going at these speeds means one bump or mistake and you're into a wall or another car.

Also it appears 1/3 of the racers have all their tyres destroyed before every finishing the race.

Comical to watch as long as it's not you.

It's my opinion the cars should start the normal way and reach their regular racing speeds that these cars can normally handle.
*Bastille*

Posted Feb 21, 2013, 9:45 am
they will still reach that speed but atm they do it more quickly, so that they are nearly at full race speed on the first corner.

Were you not one of the proponents to rolling starts?

Good point but that's a game engine flaw, would it be possible to hard cap vehicle speeds based more on their chassis? But I know motor homes are ridiculously slow even with a 5l, is it their weight or aerodynamics?

Nope, never knew Sam was going to do that.

And I was mistaken, it was 4l, not 3.2 engines.

Guess the point I was trying to make is 4L sedans with armor reaching 200mph seems highly unlikely, especially since each turn is 1 second and these cars are reaching 200mph in a very short time with just a 4L. Is there any sedan today in the real world with no armor that can do 200mph. Yes, I realize DW is not the real world and we usually throw reality out the window, but do we have to keep pushing it?lol

What next, 4L farm tractors at 175mph? lol

An again, the tyres at these speeds won't hold out a fair amount of time.

My opinion, let them start normally and make it a 3 lap race instead of 2. The normal speedway is 4 laps, 3 for the super speedway seem to be a better fit than just 2 laps.

PS: Track looks good, but seems more sparse now that the pylons are gone. Adding some non moving motor homes in the center would add to the look. ;)

Never saw a RL firetruck that can do 245mph either, but there you go.

Rolling start or not, the cars will hit 200mph. From a standing start I had a racing tractor (the semi truck not the tractor tractor) up over 200mph, same with the 4L bullets. This was also on the earlier bumpier version. It's to do with the wide track, easy corners, and solid surface.

The AI will improve eventually, and the track makes for different events to what we've had so far. I really don't see a problem.
Lord Foul

Posted Feb 22, 2013, 7:47 am
lol, yeah if that's going to be the norm, Sam should remove the 250mph cap and let it fly. Allow McKenzies, cougars etc to go above 300mph or even 400mph, why stop at a wimpy 250mph? lol

Hell, why start everyone at 80mph, just start them all at 200mph if speed is the purpose of this track. :D
*Bastille*

Posted Feb 23, 2013, 2:09 am
agreed that 3-4 laps should be the norm. 3 seems good for most cars.

Ive had 10 or so great races against the AI here. They seem to do fine. Sure they do spin out too, but that makes life interesting when they do it right in front of you.

The maserati Quatroporte can do about 200 mph with a 3.8v8 ...

The Bentley continental flying spur does with a 6l

The Cadillac cts-v does 198 but again with a 6l

Anyway, who cares, its a game! We have known for years that a full armoured 4L pho will top the mark.

No I meant to say with full armor it's highly unlikely they can go that fast, plus sedans don't have room to sport anything bigger then a 3.2L v8 unexposed. And they are all beat up cars from the apocalypse...

I really think cars should be more influenced by their chassis
have the good  sedans cap at 120 mph  for example , and symphs at 90 mph or something. I'm not a car buff but I think some max speed differences between cars is  good

Yeah, um, car mounted laser weapons really don't exist now, either. At least not ones you can slap on your bumper in a hour and still fire, even after you plow into someone at 20 mph.

Just another reminder that it's currently the year 2066; I've always figured that engine technology had increased along with everything else, so you continue to get smaller engines putting out more power at time progresses. As an example:

The first Indy 500 cars back in 1911 had a 600 cu. in. (9.8 L) limit. The cars weighed about 2,300 pounds, and the winner averaged 74 mph. (Which is pretty freaking slow by todays standards--but on those skinny tires, with a normal car losing gallons of oil over the 500 mile course, and on a brick track? I think it's safe to say those people were more crazy than any ganger I've ever had.)

Oh,and the fuel injected '57 Chevy was marketed as a big deal, because it got one HP per CID. Wow, right?

Point is, with all the other gaps in realism we overlook, this one seems pretty easy to justify.

I predict that one day when I'm doing a qualifier on this track I'll be coming into the last turn of the first lap and poof an NPC(or player) pops up in front of me to do the qualifier and bam I'm insta killed.

Then writing a bug report asking for my dead driver back.

This will probably happen more than once.

Yeah something needs to change for qualifiers, mabie add a pit road area to spawn late qualifiers from?

I like the idea of motorhomes in the infield.

Why not add a Pit Exit so to speak and a blend line so cars can come up to speed out of the groove and then blend into traffic once their speed is up.

Back
