Mostly personal gear, a lot of it completely useless (gnawed human thigh bone, for example).

mainly useful in scav to get things like grenade belts, Molotov belts and SMGs that you cant loot

You can also find a bag of weed, a hammer, and (very rarely) some ammo for a weapon you don't have.

I got the impression searching them made creatures appear - or maybe made more appear once they were spawning...
Not sure, but I lost my leader early on due to a rat infestation whilst I examined loot piles fruitlessly. The rats did not stop spawning. |

They do seem to promote creature spawns, and if you on a foot squad they will create more spawns as long as your digging in them.
On a side not there are alot of the piles that dont seem to work properly. you can set order to surch pile but after turn ends comand seems to cansel. Not sure if thats telling you its empty or what. |

And that's why I keep searching them...
More for me to shoot.... More handgun training and courage. and the occasional ammo and bag of weed. |

Hmm, strange, the bag of weed never seems to be there when I check my character's inventory. Not sure how they're finding the time to smoke it... |

And it totally explains why they travel to the wrong city on occasion |

I found a Heavy Rocket Rack once but it didn't let me have it since my character didn't have 20 free bulk to carry it or something. The car had room (because he wasn't in it) and he could have walked home in exchange for an HRR but the game didn't let me have it. Piles need reworked to be more self explanatory. Such as Searching for 1 turn lets you pull up a loot screen, but each item has a set number of turns the character will be inactive to move it to the car... or something. As it is, you don't know if your guy is really searching or just over there whacking his weeds so to speak |
