Darkwind
"Safe" Deathracing, Advice for Beginners

That's right... there are some simple guidelines you can follow to use Deathrace events as a safe way to gain combat experience, train your gangers and maybe pick up a little extra money.

1) Look at the cars the enemies are using; if they have any rear-mounted weapons, DO NOT ENTER.

2) If you want a quick event with a good chance of picking up some prize money, DO NOT ENTER any Deathrace which allows multiple vehicles from each NPC gang.

3) Adjust your vehicle's armor so that it has more armor up front than it does in back; Deathrace vehicles are usually set up with a lot of Rear armor.

4) This is the most important tip: STAY IN BACK. Target the vehicles in the back of the main pack, or pick off stragglers. Don't let anyone get behind you.

5) Remember not to shoot Resigned vehicles, as doing so will cause the NPC gangs to come after you in later events.

Following these rules will NOT win you a lot of Deathraces, but your gang members will increase in skill without getting shot to pieces, you'll usually get a little bit of prize money, and you'll gain confidence as a player.

If you are subscribed, experiment with creating your own Deathrace vehicles for events which require you to bring your own car. Avoid Gatling weapons, as sometimes the enemy will Resign after the first shot hits, and you will technically be shooting a Resigned vehicle with the second shot!

NOTE ON COMPETING WITH OTHER PLAYERS:

Very few DarkWind players will seek and destroy new players in Town Events, but it's always best to be on the safe side. If there are other players in your Deathrace, ask them if they are willing to Truce with you. Many players will agree to a Truce if you allow them to win and vow not to shoot them.

---

I'm sure others will disagree with some of this advice, but I have had a lot of fun (and no fatalities) using this system. :)

also wise to avoid any event with rockets (especially the chomper one), or mines (especially the flash), or any event on the ss rally course.

This is like kids Soccer when they don't keep score. If ya want to learn some real skill do thyis instead. Win the race, it IS a race, by getting ahead of everyone else.

1) NPC's with rear mounted weapons; add more armor to the front of your car, use other car's as shields

2) Multiple cars for each team just means a bigger race.

3)You only need enough front armor to protect you from a few minor crashes. Max armor goes to the rear. Unless of of course they have rear mounted weapons.

4) You can't win a race if you stay in the back. Stay at the side until the time is right.

5) Good point but only if you care.

6) Think about when it's best to shoot. Recoil weapons will slow you down. It's best to shoot in the corners when you need to slow a bit. Also high impact weapons can make you opponent crash. Give him a little bump to make sure. After all 'rubbin is racin'

7) Manage your ammo wisely. It's hard to reload when you're doing 120 mph.

8) Never take out the guy right in front of you at first. Let him wast his ammo taking out the guy in front of him. Pass him and you just gained two positions.

9) Never truce. Playing against real people will gain you the best experience.

EARN YOUR VICTORY!!!! Let's put the blood back in blood sports.

Freakin' mama's boys.

Practice winning and go pro:

Get a squad of pro-racer and deathracer vehicles. The breakdown is by engine, so you'll need a 2L, 3L, 5L and unlimited engine vehicle. Of course you really don't need to do all that, instead...

A 3.2v8 Phoenix or Sunrise is a great starting pro racer (B armor). Just go with twin MGs and a roll cage. Strip the MGs to turn into a pure racer. Since it takes no time to strip weapons keep it equipped with twin MGs then strip the MGs just before a pro race. Having a 1.8L Marley or 1.6L Sonic for the lower pro deathraces is also cool - the Marley can mount a MG with a roll cage and the Sonic a MMG with a roll cage.

Also keep a CR 100 or so merc lying around for pro arena events.

Pester Sam for more pro events ;)

did a lot of this, and other than being fun (which admittedly is probably the point), it's not worth the time really. never found skill gains from town events to be all that great, and the money barely pays for repairs, if that.

my issue with the mine flash is that several times i know i was *no where near* the freaking mine and detonated it anyway. almost seemed to teleport under my car. and the bottom armor is so poor one hit can really mess you up. dangerous i can deal with but that seemed desperately unfair and broken.

A Load Runner stumbles to the front of the party.

"Okiss. Yor guns. Whensthe shinybits drives in front, pull the trigger. Em.. Push on that peddle as far as it goes then push it sumore."

An older woman with blonde hair and lined face intones, "And the brake?"

The younger Load Runner looks confused for a second, then pipes up, "The new Load Runners found when they removed the brakes they went faster" the Load Runner recites with perfect English.

The blonde turns her wrist in her hand. The time that goes by... She thought to herself that the only safe deathrace is in your dreams, even then you gotta worry bout your sheets. She steers the Load Runner to bar stool.

I still love porcupine races. And I love running them from the front. You should never take a porcupine from behind.

But the best advice is ... Don't do town events at all. If you are bored enough to do a town event take a bath, go read an improving book, take up drink or drugs in sufficient quantities to knock you out, call your mum..... Etc etc.

Make some friends and go scouting. The ONLY excuse for doing town events is if you need a first car in scav or you need fuel to get out of firelight.

I am struggling to begin a comment on this line alone.

By itself alone speaks volumes of bestiality, sadomasochism, and the pure perverse debauchery that is the goatstarer  .....
