I'm running WIN8.1 and almost everytime I alt-tab between the client and the webpage the client crashes.
I also occasionally (but sometimes disasterously) cannot switch between fields (for example not being able to switch back to keyboard control once in the comms text field - RIP "Blue Eyes") This happens less regularly now I have upgraded to WIN8.1. Also crashes on exit to loot MOST times. |

I had many of the same issues and after making changes to client sound and video settings it seemed to clear up, also some of the free month firewall crap screwed things up too.
Grimm Sykes Posted Jan 18, 2014, 5:02 pm |
I found windows isn't worth upgrading to, until the OS has been out 3 to 5 years to work out the kinks. 8.1 is less then a month old, good luck.

IT guy here = Still running Win 7, x64 Pro
I and am good with that. Win 8(8.1), WinME, Vista.. Watch the correlation of releases since Win95 Win95 - Good Win98 - Not so good! Win98SE - Good! WinME - Horrible! Windows 2000/XP - Good! Vista - Hurl! Win 7 - Good! Win 8 (8.1) - Gack! Not hard to figure this one... AVOID every other release... |
||
musashi_san Posted Jan 18, 2014, 5:36 pm |
well 2000 and xp are different sequential releases that were good, so that doesn't quite work. my rule of thumb is to not upgrade until necro tells me it's ok ![]() seriously, though, win8 is dog####. i've been stockpiling windows 7 licenses.... |
||
Necrotech Posted Jan 18, 2014, 5:39 pm |
The only difference between 2000 and XP were slight kernel changes (Win 5.0 to 5.1) and Gui. Under the hood not really that much different save for added home user features, which was why WinXp was widely (and still) adopted by the business market. |

"Not hard to figure this one... AVOID every other release..."
I feel that way about Indiana Jones movies too.... |

*Maxxed* Posted Jan 27, 2014, 2:04 am |
Should we just skip DW2 and go straight to DW3? ![]() Cheerz Boon will have a fiddle and see if I can improve it...I did a few tweaks with the PC settings and the client GFX settings but if anything it made it worse. I'll do a clean install and continue to fiddle. If I find a miracle permafix will post it here. I would call Win8 a dog...but dog's are reliable for the most part.....when I was an IT reseller we refused to sell anything but XP....Win 7 seemed OK. The lapdog I was gunna buy had Win 7 but in the end I bought this rig with Win8 which I now regret....shoulda stuck to my old rule...never buy an OS until SP2 is released. |

Grimm Sykes Posted Jan 27, 2014, 12:15 pm |
What I've started doing is setting up a fresh windows install on a virtual machine. This way I can test out a OS and if i decide i don't like it I can erase it and my old OS is still intact.
Heres a brief tutorial how to do this http://www.askvg.com/install-windows-8-developer-preview-using-virtualbox-or-vmware-workstation/ and as for vista, here in the usa, microsoft had to offer a upgrade deal to all vista users to upgrade to windows 7 cause vista was such a piece of crap that legal issues came up. Vista was removed from windows update and tech support while XP was still supported. Windows 2000 and XP were both based on the windows NT OS kernel. |
