It has been stated that "Upgraded" Gear will be lootable.

How will I know that what I have looted is an upgraded version of something?

And by the way the new Font makes a 95% weapon look like it is a 195% weapon when mousing over a car in the loot screen.  Dislike...

It will show as upgraded on the webpage. I guess I could indicate it during looting too... was kindof thinking you'd have to get it home to assess properly first though, from a roleplaying point of view

Maybe. [*]  posable item with a 50% chance of failed inspection depending on mechanical skills?

getting it home first is fine.  I think that's a fair and realistic way of doing it.  But since I probably haven't found anything yet I just didn't know how i'd know.

Yeah, upgraded stuff shows on the website everywhere that equipment is listed (in cars, in lockups, etc.)... but currently only on the 'new' website, of course.. I'm working the display changes back into the current website.

Assessing gear should be a mechanic related skill, or even a new skill. More skill types = more depth to the game.

How is upgraded gear "role played?" Is it a muzzle brake on an MG? Better optics on an ATG? In other words, something that would be fairly obvious at first glance?

Or would it just be (again, RP-theory-wise) a higher rate of fire or thicker barrel, which would not be as observable?

I think this is a great idea. Also along the same vein, maybe we could have a new scout skill that slightly increases the chance that we'll come across upgraded gear.

Yeah, I guess some of it would be observable, some not. I was generally just thinking the stuff would be "high quality".

A mech test to identify stuff makes sense.

Heck, it's the Apocalypse. Perhaps the good stuff is just cleaner.
