News is just out that a consignment of Gazette-insignia sunrises has been ordered by Arizona of the DW Gazette head office in Elmsfield.

"These cars will be seen conducting official Gazette business" stated Arizona, "and I would ask you to grant them immunity from gunfire. In the interests of the news service, please treat our employees as neutrals."

{Cheryl Kelley examines the car, walking around it} Hmmmm... one of those would certainly look good in our garage ... purely from a collectors stand point mind you.

No, they're only for Gazette editors, for official business only. The only way for someone else to get one would be to kill a Gazette editor, but I know no-one here would do that  :cyclops:

so will these cars be showing up in combats around Somerset and Elmsfield and just sorta hang around? that sounds pretty cool to me. Maybe increase the amount of positive/negative reputation gained from the event they show up in?

They're going to be used by just Ayjona and viKKing, at first. They will use them when out gathering stories and photos for the Gazette. I'm sure they would also be interested in tagging along as a neutral on a scout, to write a story on it. Stuff like that.

Nice idea about rep..

Yes, I really like the rep idea as well. Of course, I like anything that makes me more sought-after by the community ;) , but this idea in particular is very logical.

Sam, it would be great if we could tag along on scouts without affecting the CRs of either party. Not that I mind going along with the scouting squad and dodging enemy fire while I take photos (what, me, participate in the combat myself? That would be fabricating news! Never!), but sometimes, it would be cool to be able to catch fights in the wilderness as an observer, without taking sides.

Of course, I could do this by just spectating the event, but then, I wouldn't get to use the really, really sexy cars you've given us ;)

It's possible that there might be pirate gangs out there who do not really care if they are observed and documented, though I daresay they might get a bit annoyed once they start losing. But by then, it will be too late for them to do anything about me.

If they remember anything of the time before the Solar Apocalypse, however, they'll probably target the journalist before all others ;)

I know I would! ;)

I suggest his car gets a kind of "ghost" effect sam, so he can drive around getting really good shots, without interfering with anyone.

I like the idea of the tag-along-for-the-story. If the cars are unarmed with light armor the effect on the squad's CR should be minimal and may make for a more interesting combat. Being published in an article would increase fame more than rep I think. Publicity = fame. Deed done = rep.
Whatever bonus is applied maybe there should be a limit to how often a team can be featured or better yet, only multi team squads can be covered. Try to spread it around as much as possible. Wouldn't want the media accused of showing any bias now would we? ;)

I certainly would advise special server rules with involving Gazette cars, I mean even pirates like the exposure...adds to their meaness rep if they happen to win a player scout.....

so maybe a new coding so a "Gazette" car wouldn't affect the odds yet be ignored by the pirates as far as victory conditions go...meaning they only have to thrash the other player cars to end an event.

This way the reporters can have a non-combatant role yet expose them to the more nefarious mis-deeds of our unscrupulous players (maybe with an added minus rep penalty and bounty addition) who nail em in hopes of a snazzy looking car?

Also that if said nefarious gang manages to snag a gazette car that they would not be calculated for odds...tho some limit would need to be applied in this case.......

(700th post yay!!! :cyclops: )

I don't know... I think that the Gazette cars SHOULD affect the combat rating of the fight, as even bandits would show up more if they knew someone was going to be filming... and I also like the idea of a reporter having to run for his life as the bandits turn on him after thrashing the combatants.
