Keeping tabs on distance

Several posts talk about how to thin the odds on a scout by letting some cars get more than 500m away, but keeping at least one no more than 350m away. How do you keep tabs on the distance between you and the bad guys - often I'm on dunes and I can't see them when they are approaching the limits?

I have noticed I sometimes get some dialogue just before they all leave - is that some form of bugging out message?

You can use the F2-4 keys (I think it was those, been a while) to tab trough what is displayed over cars, iirc things like Gang Name, Vehicle Name, Current Speed and so on.

One of them is "Distance to closest enemy vehicle". With that it's fairly easy to keep in track when things are getting to close to escape range.

It still requires some scrolling around but I don't remember there being any better method than that when you need a quick overview.

Just put your mouse cursor over the NPC vehicle. It will show that vehicle's distance to you. Otherwise, as FireFly stated, the F2 F3 and F4 keys can be used to set header info above the vehicle such as driver or gang names, chassis build, speed and distance. A good set up new players is F2 Chassis, F3 Speed and F4 Distance.

F2 Chassis

Until you can reliably recognise chassis on sight - then change it to morale (Confident/Demoralised)

Makes it much easier to see who to target towards end of a large scout

the closest distance will only tell you how close One car is. if you want to keep tabs on 2 cars distance, target each one with a different gun. Then as you are running to thin them out, you can just hover the mouse over your gun and see the distance.
