Me and Rhalp had a really peculiar scout tonight, Sam. And this time, I am almost absolutely convinced that it is *real*  bug ;)

Cheap, greedy and absolutely broke, we borrowed a Moose and a Vampire and set out with the safety of Somerset citizens as our sole objective in mind.

To make the story short, and to skip to the tree-hugging vampire part, my vampire started hugging a tree. And he stayed that way throughout the whole scout. The enemies ignored me completely, and pounded away at Rhalp. I did my very best to fire from my peculiar angle, but given that I was aimed at the heavens with my rear end pinned between the tree and a hard place, there was little I could do ;)

Things got even more peculiar when Rhalp's car surrendered. The Marauder drove up behind me, to my great enjoyment. A tree up my rear I might have, but my machine gun was unstuck and unplugged.

Once the marauder was down, however, an additional weirdness began to set in. The symph began driving in circles around me, occasionally scratching my paint, but never amounting to anything. Finally, I set my AI to take control, and logged out, hoping it might know a trick or two for unhugging a overly friendly vampire.

15 seconds later, Rhalp called me, to tell me that the AI immediatedly surrendered my car, and that we had lost the scout.

What makes this surrender so surprising, is that my vampire had only lost  a few points of armor on each side, the driver was uninjured, the engine whole, the chassis and weapons undamaged, while the remaining symph was quite battered (and the other two bandits were surrendered and quite badly hurt).

The only one who lost cars in this was Dexter, but me and Rhalp did lose one and two characters respectively, a little bit of moral fiber and a little bit of morale fiber, and the possibility to loot one or two cars (the marauder had no engine, but the Desert Flame was still intact though it had surrendered, and the symph would have gone down quickly, with no right armor).

It looks like the problem was the front wheels off the ground. There are still occasional weirdnesses in the collision code, unfortunately. RE surrendering - probably because the vehicle had been not moving for so long (thats one of the reasons that NPCs surrender)

This is not a problem, this is a normal behaviour for a front axle driven vehicle.
It would be weird with a 4x4 or rear axle powered car.

What were you doing that way Ayjona?  :stare:

I always assumed that most of the cars here, siren and cadrona excepted would be rear wheel drive because of their american origins.
Especially how they drift around corners

Im pretty sure the vamp should be rear wheel, it has far too much power going to go to the front wheels.

yes, I can attest to the fact that the vampire should be rear wheel drive. the vehicle i think it is based on is rear wheel.

Ah, a collision mesh thing. I'm guessing you don't need any more reports on those ;)

As for the surrender, I understand it now. I really should have thought of that before logging out, since I do recall reading something about it ;)

I'm curious... Does the AI use different criteria for surrender than our gang members? My stress remained at 7 during the 20+ turns I was stuck at the tree, but the driver surrendered immediatedly after I logged.

Heh, perceptive question. Sure you wanna know the answer? :p

But no, this wasn't normal behaviour, since the Dodge Viper is rear-wheel driven.

Also, both Rhalp and one of the NPCs ran into me several times, and the car just circled perpendicular to the axis of the tree, still stuck at the rear end. The whole angle is unnatural in itself, since nothing is pinning me to the tree, and nothing is keeping the front end of the car suspended. That, more than anything, makes me certain this was a mesh bug.

Though I must say it was very enjoyable, practical invincibility (another sign of a bug) and all ;)

Did you uncheck the "handbrake" control box?  :rolleyes:
