I'm afraid I'm getting more hangs these last three days... can anyone advise... here's the console log... (btw I've done a fresh install)...

What do you mean by hangs? it fails to complete the download phase?

Hula, sorry, was caught in a can't-access-the-web phase, and have hitten the reply button many times.
It seems the ISP is experiencing some troubles. Maybe it was related to your own problems?

ok, still having this problem (which is becoming critical as i have only about a thousand dollars in the bank and need to start earning/playing)...
I wonder whether its a router problem at my end - I can reconfigure the router to allow DW through, but need to know which ports I should open in DW's case.

Darkwind needs to have TCP and UDP ports 28000-28020 open.
However, my guess is that this is not related to blocked ports on your router, as otherwise you wouldn't get to connect to the gameservers at all. You do connect, but freeze up at some stage during 'Loading Objects', is that right?
Your car and driver should be fine, the event won't start until you fully get into the game.
Can you get into other live events right now, is it only your own one that's failing? is it failing at the same point each time on the loading bar?
When it freezes up, does your whole system become unresponsive? Jim has had the same problem, and this is what he reports.

I'm attempting to open the ports you state and will get back with results of that.
but yes its freezes mostly on loading objects, sometimes on data screen.
Its funny, I got in a race earlier (didn't finish though so no rent money!)
The fails seem to be pecific to location - ie fails at same point on repeated attempts... but sometimes on different screens?

I think this may be important. If a particular event is failing to load, does it freeze at exactly the same point each time you try it?

Does your router have a firewall built in? If it does, is there some sort of packet inspection filter in it?
Can you try disabling all firewalls?
This same problem was happening to Black Mamba some months ago and it seemed to be some sort of packet sniffer on his firewall which seemed to be thinking that a particular sequence of data somewhere in the loading sequence was suspicious, and was blocking it. At least, that's my guess as to why disabling his firewall fixed it.
I have asked Jim to try entering your event, to see if he can get in (he sometimes gets this same problem).

What other applications are you running Hula?
I think this has to be some interaction with other software on your system, since it's happening to you and not other people even when the precise same data is sent from the server.
Was it running ok for you prior to yesterday's patch?

I see you eventually got into the event somehow hula... how was that, with a different PC?
It must be something that is running on your PC thats conflicting with Darkwind...

yeah, classic pebkac.... thought I'd set up DW in firewall settings - I hadn't allowed it server rights (didn't think it'd need em) - anyway it seems to be ok, and your firewall advice was spot on...
