Darkwind
Failure to Launch

*Fourhand*

Posted Jan 1, 2008, 8:51 pm
I downloaded the game, let it install and enter my username and pass.  When I hit enter I get the error message "Unable to Launch Darkwind Client Application. It is likely that DarkwindLobby has failed to update the game, More information will be displayed" And it launches my browser and sends me to this page. http://www.dark-wind.com/indexJava.php?page=launchErrorWindows.php

I have the latest version of Java. Firewall is down. No anti-virus.  When the Login screen launches it downloads the updates and the text files say I have the current version of the engine, build, and all that jazz.

I have tried both the ZiP version and the other version.

Do you have administrator rights?

Do you reach the login window here:
login

Edit: so far we are still unsuccessful.
FourHand cannot reach any of the splash loading pictures (GG and Psychic).
Only chat lobby works.

Any attempt to launch the client leads to the error he reported.

We checked CRC files, redownloaded the client... nothing.  :(

Is there a darkwindClient.exe in your DW folder? Have you tried launching it instead and see what happens?

Yeah. I get a different error message. Something about failed to launch application because application configuration is incorrect. Windows style error box. I sent a screen shot of both error messages to Vikking.

I saw your screenshot fourhand - it's not one I;ve seen before. Did you try the IB version of the client? What version of XP are you using?

Yes, I tried both versions of the client. Same error message for both. I am running Windows XP home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2.

*edit*
When I try to launch the game from the AutoUpdater/Chat I get the error message that sends me to the windows error page on this site. If I quickly close all the windows I can see a splash screen with a Camero (or whatever you guys call it) and the games title with the words "Launching Game Client". However it never launches the game.

It seems to be that your version of Windows is rejecting the actual client executable. Not a Java problem or a patching/admin rights problem.

Vikking mentioned that you might be using a 64 bit architecture?

The little square with a car and nothing more, sounds like a video problem to me, but the game client is not generating console.log at all, so it is hard to figure.

Edit: I only suggested he might, as I did not ask.

vikk: "failed to launch application because application configuration is incorrect" - this is a Windows error when he tries to run the client directly. He doesn't even get as far as failing with video drivers! I'll go take a look around GarageGames for this error.

Nothing much on GG, but this error message is well covered around the web. For example:  here

Fourhand, would you be able to check the event log to look for better info.? (see link above)

Also, Clicking that link at the end of the event report does precisely squat.

Do you get a different error log message when you fail to load the darkwindClient.exe? (I assume that was the IB version you reported on)

From the looks of that you're missing some runtimes.

Installing this will probably fix it.

I was about to write the same thing; if I had not logged in so late again.  ;)

Thanks alo :-)

I was just about to do some more digging. I couldn't see how it can be the MSVC2005 redist missing for the non-IB version, because I build that one using MSVC6 and using statically-linked libraries.

I hope you like the game after all this Fourhand! :cyclops:
