Darkwind
New NPC Vehicles

Jansan

Posted Apr 15, 2008, 8:54 pm
There may already be a thread for this, but I couldn't find it. And it might be time for a new one anyway.

Suggest some new NPC vehicles for fun! Rare or common, try to include less-used chassis and weapons so we can see some variety on the field.

I put some ideas below. Some are just fun things I thought of that may or may not work well, some I've used myself.

I'll put other people's ideas in too to keep the list up to date.

I think a bit more variety would be good, rather than facing the same thing all the time. A few with more common weapons based on fairly common chassis would be good.

Not sure if there is something like this, but:

Interceptor
Common
Sunrise
4l engine (maybe something similiar but rarer with a 3.l2v8?)
Hmg front mounted (maybe some one shot rockets if there is room)
2 people
Heavy front armor, weaker rear.
EDIT: maybe spikes?

Gladiator
Chomper
common-uncommon
2.5l
Front Hmg and reinforced ram/rear gg or mg(again, maybe some one shots if room, perhaps a heavy rocket in place of the gg)
Heavy front armor
characters:2

NEW CAR BUILDS
Name: Flash And Burn
Chassis: Flash
Rarity: Rare
Weapons: Front Machine gun, Rear Nitro
Armor: Heavy Front
Tires: Racing/Standard
Engine: Max Considering Bulk
Characters: 1 (Likely all that would fit)
Notes: As long as the NPC doesn't frickin' crash it, it'd be a really nasty hit-and-run car.

This would be a nice Deathracer too.

Edit: just noticed the 88. I love it! I would like to see a Mcfly, even if it is super rare.  Maybe drop the nitro and go to 2 mmgs?

Awesome, I love the idea of more one shot heavy rockets. Those thing scare me too. I'd watch the side with that mother on it.

Ah good idea, I'll just add another version with dual MMGs and no nitro. Can't hurt to have more example builds.

Edit - And plus, more Back to the Future references.  :)

Jansan: How about changing the name on the Flamethrower buzzer to "Dragon's Breath"?
And some more designs!

Crusher
Apache
engine: 4l or 3.2lv8
Uncommon
Front Reinforced Ram and Heavy Flamethrowers and maybe something else on sides/back
2 people
"A terrifying melee vehicle"

No one thinks I am a Pyromaniac, do they? :p

Devastator
Apache
rare
4l engine(or 3.2lv8)
Front Car cannon and gatling gun
2-3 characters
Heavy front/moderate bottom armor(maybe not the max amount of armor for the chassis)
Notes: "Read the name"

Name change only..

Name: Oil Barrel (Exxon Valdez)
Chassis: Windsor
Rarity: Common
Weapons: Rear Oil, Front Heavy Machine Gun
Armor: Heavy Front
Tires: Standard
Engine: Max Non-Exposed
Characters: 2
Notes: Oil and guns, classic Spy Hunter combination.

Name: Haze (Purple Haze) since paint is purple
Chassis: Lorry
Rarity: Uncommon
Weapons: Heavy Smokescreen/Heavy Paint Spray each side, Dual Front Heavy Gatling Guns, Dual Rear Mortars
Armor: Heavy Front
Tires: Reinforced
Engine: 8L
Characters: 4+
Note: With this much smoke and paint, it should be easy to cause confusion and dual heavy gatling the opposition.

More great ideas, thanks guys. Going to add them now.

In the meantime I had added a bunch of the rare/never seen chassis. They'd be great to add to the ultra rare chance to tougher scouts.

I will now add design I am using for a very long time now and I think NPCs will use it even better than me thanks to not have to wait one second after targetting.

Name: Black Rock
Chassis: Landrunner
Rarity: Common
Weapons: Front RL and HMG (or HGG) and all sides and rear MGs (or GGs)
Armor: Full all around
Tires: Reinforced
Engine: 3.2l (or 3.2l V8)
Characters: 2
Notes: There is no place to be safe around this car, front is worst but even approaching from rear can get you killed

Maybe use the design in brackets as rarer design, I dunno, I ue the best I can find, so started with the non bracket, now have the design in brackets...
(And I know the name is stupid, but I wanna be remembered :D )

Mutant Mulcher

Pickup Chassis
Armor 21/16/18/18/5/5
2L Engine
Front Reinforced Ram
Front Paint Gun
Left GG
Right GG

Light, fast, and designed to take down even the biggest guns with minimal cost, this ramming pickup works best when fighting alongside its cousins the Marauder and Masher.

Mutant Menace

Pickup Chassis
Armor 18/12/14/14/12/14
2L Engine
Front CGL
Front CGL
Left MG
Right MG

Another off roader with maximum bang for minimal buck, this indirect fire weapon turns the tables on those slow Mortar Lorries with a dose of their own high angle medicine.

That'd be cool too, totally forgot about that. I'll leave it up to Mr. Eddy since its his car design; Eddy just let me know.

That would be cool, but he may want to surprise us with certain ones. If he wants to give us hints however I wouldn't object. :P I might have to make a new, different post with the new confirmed ones since the list is so huge.

It's really going to be hard to tell with the really rare stuff when/if its in, but the more common builds should be easy to spot.

No worries, Sam tweaks as needed. For example, the Da Vinci used to have rear paint spray as design, but he went with side paints which probably work better considering the design. This just serves as a springboard really.

i see alot of ppl suggest thing's like van's and boxvan's with rare weapon like Morter and CC ATG and other stuff i think it not right becuz those car's arent for fight they support car's only and should be treated like that.

I see it this way (war way)
Tank's= apache Buzzer's land rover's and other strong chasis with good armor fit

now u got light medium and heavy type tanker's

Light-medium= suport transportasion and trader's

Heavy=there to kick evrything out of the way.

so plz dont put this into the game the weapon will be very easy hunted and those weapon supose to be rare.

I know u want those gun's but if it be easy to get them then all will have and gun's like Tank gun's will become comman and that not supose to happend at all.

P.S i will soon make some of my own Combo from light to heavy and note what for what use

Ogara not that of an Accalrator but it not his job, his job get to that praticalr car and destroy him a fast as he can.
HFT will go with the gun that do more splash dmg and the HGG will go with the 1 that do pentrait better.
Vurnable to Balistic weapon but then agin it not his job be close to the enemy when first the fast car intersapt and go handle with the morter car's and ogra will be the 1 that makeing enemy flee

when i will have time i get Apache Fight/Suport and same landruver  and some intersaptor's

I specifically made it a box van because the armor is paper thin, making it harder to salvage the weapon. I dont need any mortars myself, just think the game needs it. And they need buses in the wilderness for sure. Bus armor is thin too, and it will be hard to loot weapons in this too, but will offer a great opponent. You dont want a great rare chassis car with great rare weapons, this would be the "mother load" and would be too great of loot. Need to split it up some.

here where u rong thin armor mean's faster dmged right? but what if i got intersaptor with those weapon that hit only soft or use flame to confuse them so I vote no more rare weapon on unarmed car's
easier to destroy easier to loot that's final, there no black and white here i dislike the idea of puting CGL on a bandit also as the NPC dont use it that well and i got alot of CGL stocked in my inventory becuz of that. long range car's should stay out sight or at list distance.

and it fualish to make intersaptor without any ammo or 1 CGL as CGL is shoing at numars stacked car's for massive dmg

plz who the creater of this theared make a pool on that.

My point is why are you wanting a extremely rare chassis with extremely rare weapons? So you can get the complete package all on one scout? I have thrown out some NPC vehicle model suggestions here, if you dont like them, oh well. I don't particularly like your models either, but I am not screaming or criticizing them as if they are implemented all of Evan will fall into Hell.

Yes but for evry Set there some Rairty I didnt put FireTruck with super rare guns like tank gun and put on him a rarity of comman.
I suggested an Escort ambulance that will defand escorts while on the run and u'r chanse to catch and ambulance is only with intersaptors u'r apache and all other car want catch it he got an accalrasion of an sunrise with 3.2 L so basicly he will be that hard not only to encounter even to catch and i not tlaking about trying to defate him.

and the other thing is the Chasis Strenth and state(speed) is incradibale wich make him that good.

it defantly better put good weapon's on good car's and not good weapon on crappy car's it just simpale logic.

and i think for each car combo u should also make NPC behaive diffrantely(ya i know pain in the ass to Sam)
but it warth it

I've been mystified as to why these suck so much, until I finally realized that the AI isn't putting a gunner in them. I'm not sure if it's adding additional ammo, and then finding no room for a gunner, or what... but it really needs to have a 2nd crewperson to be effective.

Also, the top and bottom armor are reversed from the original intent, but maybe that's okay.

Have had several attempts with Ram semi tractors - they are hopeless - they get spun on ramming symphs etc.....
I am still trying but its pretty unrewarding - if hysterically funny sometimes.
Oh yeah and the armour on a semi tractor should be tougher -as it is it may as well be paper.

Personally, I don't think camp-built only makes sense.  If we can build them, then I don't see why NPCs couldn't build them.  More importantly, if we can build them while squatting in a camp in the wilderness, why can't a town mechanic shop/factory build them?

Since Somerset is mostly hatchbacks and sedans these days, might be nice to have some more designs. Restricted myself to just chassis that are on sale in SS. Note that I'm not claiming all these are any good (at all), and I seem to have produced too many ram cars. Ah well.

Masque - Racoon, 1L engine. Front GG and MR. Armour front 15, sides and rear 12, top 4, bottom 5. 2 occupants.

Harpy - Sonic, 1L engine. front RL. Armour front 20, sides/rear 17, top 4, bottom 5. 1 occupant, and 1 reload. If the AI's not able to deal with reloads for one person cars, up engine to 1.2L instead.

Soundwave - Sonic, 1.6L engine. front reinforced ram and mini rocket. Armour front 20, sides/rear 16, top-bottom 6. 1 occupant. This is probably a stupid idea.

Airedale - Alpha, 1L engine. Front FT, MR. Armour front 15, sides and rear 13, top and bottom 3. 1 occupant.

Impact - Cadrona, 1.6L engine. front mounted ram and heavy rocket, left and right medium rocket. Armour front 15, sides and rear 12, top 4, bottom 5. 1 (suicidal) occupant.

Sanzio - Cadrona, 1.2L engine. front paint gun and medium rocket. Armour front 15, sides and rear 12, top 4, bottom 5. 1 occupant.

Bully - Carrier Van, 4L engine. rollcage. Front HFT and Reinforced Ram, sides and rear Flamethrower and MR. Armour front 26, sides 22, rear 20, top and bottom 7. Up to 5 occupants, or plenty of reloads. Not sure a 4L (or even a V8) will shift that much weight though - needs testing.

Landsknecht - Mercenary, 3.2L engine. front CGL and CR. Armour front 22, sides and rear 18, top/bottom 8. 2 occupants plus reload for each weapon. Could switch to rear guns?

Cataphract - Mercenary, 3.2L engine. rollcage, front reinforced ram and veh shotgun, left, right and rear HR. Armour front 23, sides 20, rear 19, top/bottom 5. 1 occupant. 1 reload, if you want.

Sunset A powerful deathracing musclecar
Redskin A popular arena combat configuration
Firey Phoenix A popular deathracer with firey weapons
Nosferatu A fast and deadly deathracer
Sapphire A deadly deathracer packing ferocious frontal weaponry
Harpy A small but effective desert combat vehicle
Squire A midsize combat vehicle with rockets
Freelance A midsize vehicle that punches above its weight
Battleaxe An offroad desert fighter

They're already easy to add, less than 5 minutes work each. It might be better left as-is, because it forces me to look closely at the design and decide if I want it rather than making it too easy to accept at the click of a button.

Three new 3.2L deathracers, because the AI keeps bringing crunchers to pro deathraces and it's just embarrassing.

I don't see any of these (except maybe the polecat) appearing anywhere north of GW. South of there, you should have the driving skills to make it (they should be at least as rare as a pegasus). Mostly I just want the long straight road maps to be less of a walkover.

Those maps may be a walkover in a 5L A armoured flail but a couple of Scarabs would make a real mess of a box van.

These aren't exactly full builds of NPC vehicles, just some suggestions generically.

Why don't some of the NPC vehicles have a variety of armor on them, for instance it would make it more interesting if some of their "chaser" type vehicles had "A" armor. Or if some of their vehicles had "C" type armor it would make them slower and ultimately cheaper when they get looted. It just seems like the C type armor is very underutilized and it makes sense for the "wastelanders" to use "C" type armor more commonly.

A suggestion for a chassis type. How about some of the current or next-gen "HYBRID" vehicles survive the solar apocalypse. (who knows what kinds of hybrid or all-electric vehicles will be produced in the next 10 to 20 years). The Honda hybrid has a unique appearance and the Toyota Prius has an interesting body type. My thinking is that these cars might only be able to wear "A" armor because their engines aren't very powerful, However, they get ridiculously good gas mileage for traveling.

The enemy should have a chance of fielding a fairly crappy car just like they have achange of fielding a fairly great car. Lower the armor or but in wierd weapon combos every now and then. Have ya'll seen the Nissan Cube or the Scion xB or the Kia Soul they look like little toasters on the road. I thought they could look pretty cool, like mini-cargo vans. Just an idea for something different. You think a few might've survived the alocalypse . . . er ... apocalypse.

In the spirit of a weird combo --I was inspired by somebody who was talking about making a smash up derby for the arena combats. I forgot who it was, but this one is for you.

http://dw.laasma.ee/carbuilder/view/172/default.png

The driver can fire off the smoke screen to cover his approach and fire off the nitrous to slam into his opponents, kind of a post apocalyptic kamikaze pilot, with spikes.

Problem is, the spikes will get damaged on use, and will never be around long enough to breach a car.
Armisius

Posted Aug 27, 2010, 2:30 am
Can the AI wait in the rear to try to hit breached cars? I thought that with the speed boost it could do some serious damage. Also, someone was saying earlier that we should design some awkward funky cars so that the AI will field some strange stuff too from time to time.

Also, I didn't really know that the spikes would get damaged after the first use and then become unusable.

Room for a gunner and driver and reloads. This car could circle at the edge and come in for the kill on cars that have been weakened. Again, not a strong design on purpose.

How about a Semi-Tractor that has enough bulk to carry an engine within its engine capacity....these could be awesome vehicles but there is a design glitch which needs to be rectified.

Currently its engine capacity is in excess of its maximum bulk majorly limiting its potential...you can't have a ridiculously oversized exposed engine 4 a start!

A few trader vehicles have drops but AI doesn't seem 2 use 'em.

Suggest AI drops all then reloads and uses old parameters with more aggro and phero-trail dropz.

As 5th said..more diverse trader vehicle set and more sophisticated AI would be cool.

The new spawns are more realistic but doesn't gel with AI base strategy and possibly easier than old line spawn..

The Trader Symphs with foj Cr rear can be effective. NPC traders you escort only use their drops if they are right back their and in heaps of trouble, or at least in my experience. Vans use their MDs on me a bit, as do the symphs. I find the phoe traders some of the nastiest, twin HMGs rear on a pho can be nasty with one chaser.

Trader Motorhome

5L light on armour 20 30 22 22 10 10

F: SS
Sides: HR and mg
Rear: Some drop weapon and some big gun? HMG and MD? Dual big guns? 2xHMG rear? PG and CGL rear? ATG/CGL rear?

While the name are good, some of the designs appear flawed when put into real action.

Texan buffalo

Even with a 3.2v8 the can accelerates at a snails pace compare to other NPC cars. Downgrading to a 3.2 will make things worse and by the time the can gets to the battle, all the real threats to you will be dealt with and the van will be easy pickings. This is not taking into account that if the van fires moth ATG, the recoil will slow it down quite a bit.

Reaver

While a 5L is nice to see in the wild, the pike is a poor chaser when compared to many of the other interceptors. A wardance is a far greater threat than this reaver would be.

Black flint

A heavy paint spray in the rear would rarely ever get used and takes up to much space that could be used for better items. The heavy rockets will be fired by the ai even if out of range when the chassis turns away from damage. After that it has one main weapon to use on 1 facing.

Gorgon

A car with average acceleration, no ranged weapons, one close range weapon and an exposed engine. Appears to be a poor design unless you’re looking to see lots of explosions with this car catching fire and exploding from the HFT fuel.

Manticore

See Gorgon

The best approach is to post the current builds that don’t work and why, then replace them with better designs and not keep the broken ones in the game.
While it’s good to come up with new designs to present a better challenge, they need to be designed to have staying power in battle or not require the design to get within 20m to be effective.

Posted Dec 15, 2010, 3:16 am
My motorhome design (purple haze) is probably a good example. I thought it was a great idea at the time, but they don't seem to pose much threat. A player might be able to make all the decisions to make great use of the above designs (I use something similar to the manticore, as Im sure many do with great success and enjoyment) but NPCs might struggle. I'm surprised at the tactics the AI do come up with for some designs .. the mulcher is not one of them.

That said, why not have a few rarer designs be a little awkward. Sometimes 5 rocket boats can get a bit boring or maybe even frustrating, and that purple haze lying on its side with a 5L is some good intensive to keep going.

I don't like high CR NPC cars and I don't like Rares , especially not in player created designs. Give NPCs accurate , low Cr weapons

The Polt sucks , it is a land barge and way underpowered.

The battleaxe is vulnerable to recoil and the gladiator never gets up to any speed for ramming.

I suggest a 2.5 CHOMP with Max front armour , twin MMGs front and an HR left right and rear - Black rock for SS that might actually get closer than the other two.

Double CGL estate - The AI is better at hanging back now , If this could get a rear GG and switched to Trader AI when enemy is within a certain distance and armour is below a certain value ?
This is a cheap car with a low CR that should not biast the NPC team too much

A BOX van for traders ! Why don't we have one of these already ? The jump between PUs and lorrys is massive , get the Boxer in there - twin rear CRs too

Get a Voyager with twin CRs for escort too - it could justifiable have an exposed 4L up front if it had Trader AI

How about a PU twin MGs front and FT left and right , 134cr?
Old school , GGs overestimated in the hands of poor gunners

More Windsor IIs and more Chomps and more cars with high toughness , that is what defeats players

COCO

A heavy paint spray in the rear would rarely ever get used and takes up to much space that could be used for better items. The heavy rockets will be fired by the ai even if out of range when the chassis turns away from damage. After that it has one main weapon to use on 1 facing.

I disagree, HR on NPC are very worrisome, I always take out an overture before it gets close, because they tend to get lucky

I would stick a another HR on the side instead of a HPS

Damage aside, the disruption they produce makes me not like them coming my way.

The kern and the BF II should have Windsor equivalents (BF I maybe?)

The Windsor I is a nice ride people should have the chance to get them more easily

Absolutely not. Player camps need more exclusive low end items, taking away the few they have would only be detrimental to the smaller camps, and the entire camp system.

How many camps are producing the Windsor I? How many have you seen on the market recently? Seems rather odd that it's more rare than a buzzer.

I made around 20 of them, the last one rolled off around 3 months ago. People were never too interested but they sold. I stopped making them when people stopped buying. If enough people say they want them then a camp will start making them again. Until then, we've all moved on to other things.

How do I make up the car data sheets? I use the car editor addon and can't figurer out how its done NVM, found it, although I seem to have an old version?

On my way home today (a two-hour drive), I saw three separate armored cars, and of course thought of this game.  The banks and large companies use them all the time to haul valuables (Loomis is a big name in the industry).  I reckon they handle much like a heavy SUV, but probably more stable, and certainly more armored.  Are there enough around to justify making them a rare/very rare?  I imagine they'd be a great alternative to a buzzer with perhaps more cargo room (though not as much as a box truck).

I've seen versions that look like bulky SUVs, and I've seen them look like vans bigger than humvees.  One of the pics in the flash of this screen shows one of the larger trucks: http://www.loomis.us/products-services/Pages/default.aspx

Worth a discussion, I guess.

OK, some more heavy vehicles for use in the south.  The idea is to add more challenge without adding a lot more rare loot.  I'm hoping for designs that would be too scary to spawn in GW, if there is such a thing.

Morrigan should have A armour, but the carbuilder doesn't seem to have stored it that way.

Meant to add, thanks to LF for the criticism on the last lot.  I just post everything that comes into my head, so a filter is handy.  Although I'll defend that carrier van to the death :)

One thing that this made me realise is that a 30-bulk rocket type weapon would really help the AI.  Something part way between the RL and the MML - maybe firing 2 rockets per turn from an 8 round mag, at medium range?

Name: Fuel Trader
Chassis: Tanker
Rarity: Rare
Armor Type: B
Tires: Reinforced
Engine: 8L
Roll Cage: Yes
Characters: 2-3
Notes: This is an NPC Trader transporting fuel instead of goods. The tanker has a Heavy Flamethrower on each side with the idea that they would make use of the fuel in the fuel tank (although the game doesn't actually allow this so it's just for flavor). A rear-mounted Mortar helps deter pursuers. There's a Reinforced Ram on the front and Mounted Spikes on the sides and rear. This Tanker can hold 500 units of fuel.

Regarding the Spikes: I've read that the damage for Mounted Spikes is based on speed and the damage for Mounted Rams is based on the vehicle's weight. I guess this means vehicle speed doesn't matter to Mounted Rams + Reinforced Rams? If so, then replacing the Mounted Spikes with Mounted Rams on the sides and rear might be advisable. I didn't want guns because then more passengers would be required, plus I was going for a certain Mad Max theme. ;)

Normally I'd agree with you, but as I mentioned in the post, the idea is they're using the fuel to fuel the flamethrowers, which would make it so they didn't have to use separate fuel tanks for them. The game doesn't actually allow this however so it doesn't really work that way. If people think it's dumb then I suppose the flamethrowers could be replaced with Vehicular Shotguns.

I'd also like to add that the Flamethrowers add a chance for explosions when enemies shoot at it, which IMO adds to the role-play aspect of it being a fuel truck. However, I didn't put a flamer on the rear for the same reason.

I think this might be something the Desert Hyenas like to use. It's also something some other northern gangs might use less frequently than the Desert Hyenas when they want to make use of their MGs but don't want to put them on a more valuable chassis.

I tried quite a number of variants in DW:T and found accuracy was drastically improved when I added a 3rd ganger to the car to avoid having the driver shoot. Plus, it's a lot easier for gangs to find people with just Driving skill or just Gunnery skill than someone with both. I also found the weight of C armor was too much for this car. I was originally going to call this the "Somerset Special" since Somerset is the starter town and the car is made entirely with stuff available in Somerset. However, that name didn't fit.

Boomslang: "A rare, beautiful interceptor, feared in Southern Evan" CR 84
3.2LV8 Vampire
Front: HGG
A armour, Fr 21, Re 17, Le 17, Ri 17, Top 5, Bottom 5
Reinforced tyres
2 Unit Fueltank
Packs a driver, gunner, and one HGG reload

I figured people needed a V8 Vampire. Those things are ridiculous.

Also, for the GW-Texan area:

Dustoff: "Just try to outrun him. We dare you."
5L Moray
Front: MMG
A Armour, Fr 18, Re 16, Le 17, Ri 17, Top 6, Bottom 6
Offroad tyres
2 Unit Fueltank
Seats a driver, gunner, and one MMG reload
For extra lolz, Dustoff should always be black.

This one is dangerous, should definately be out there.  Flamethrowers rarely get close enough, but like the paint throwers it is a valid threat because a Flamethrower can light an otherwise good car on fire.  The Rocket launcher forces you consider that aspect as well.

It has to do with camp decisions made some time ago. Camp only items were added to give a reason for camps - not necessarily a benefit, but something unique.

Rocket Racks are also camp only.

This would work well classed as a trader. With current AI movements for traders, and allowing it to use the OJ, this would be a good trader classed escort.
It would be nice to see the Corghette spawn since no one likes using it, and something that spawns a OJ would be a nice addition too. 8 Bulk remains, I was considering adding a MRP rear, they get destroyed with the first breach usually anyways... Maybe add a mounted ram on the front

It's tempting to simply submit cool chassis with cool guns on them, but since they will only spawn rarely, it would be much better -for the sake of diversity among common vehicle- to suggest variations of chassis that are often seen, with common weapons.

I agree...but my objective is to do a model of every chassis as i firmly believe that all chassis types should have a wilderness build and furthermore I believe that the small amount of coding to have a greater variety of NPC builds will have a bigger impact on long term playability than new chassis types or pretty much anything people are pushing for.

In fact I'll take this a step further...i believe all chassis types and equipment types (yes including rocket racks, rotaries and V12s) should appear in the wild.

I definitely agree Groove...the primary need for NPC builds IMHO is a greater diversity of models in the common chassis types...a few select builds with the weapons that are rare that should be ubiquitous or at least available through wilderness looting like mounted rams/spikes,spike droppers, oil jets, HOJ, HPS, MRP, nitro and smoke screens would go a long way to making scouting(and looting) much more challenging and enjoyable.

If anyone else has any ideas please add 'em. The carbuilder can be found here

Unfortunately a couple of the chassis don't work as you cannot armour them and it wont let you configure a car with zero armour.

While some of your builds are interesting Maxx, many would not work well in the wilderness.

The reason you don't see dropped weapons as loot on 98% of chassi is due to the AI not knowing to use them and the player easily avoiding them. It's added CR that does not get used and weakens the threat the NPC can have on the player.

Even some of the builds you have with rear dropped weapons would not get used, like the trash truck as you would never normally chase a trash truck.

Dropped weapons are for the most part easily obtainable since they are low tech. Any small camp can make pretty much all dropped weapons with a low mech rating. I would rather see small camps making/offering them, then see tons of common chassis equip with them.

Thanks for the effort

Posted Sep 22, 2011, 9:11 am
Modding the AI code for dropped weapons would not be a difficult one...basically "have drops start dropping" would be more effective than whatever the current IFTHEN argument is...in most cases where I have included drops the vehicle would be assumed to be running on a similar AI pattern to traders and escorts (eg trade runner)

Furthermore in my experience the AI handles maneuvering around dropped hazards exceptionally well(arguably better than most players) although it does often delay them considerabley as they tend to go right round rather than threading the needle as players are want to do so increasing the aggressiveness of drops will have considerable impact on AI survivability in trader scouts which are currently much easier and generally more lucrative than vanilla scouts.

As you say this is low tech stuff...especially things like spike droppers and mounted spikes...which is not going to affect the balance in the game no matter how ubiquitous they are...

I would rather see NPC vehicles misusing drops than have to hassle camp owners for special orders for a weapon that I could make in my backyard that is rarely available in town marketplaces.

All camps have marketplaces but they are rarely used except for listing high cost passworded items.

Of all the monopolies the supervets have surely they could give up the humble spike dropper, mounted spikes and mounted rams so that EVERYONE can field fun vehicles with low bulk low CR weapons that nicely fill in those gaps in bulk that would otherwise be filled with an extraneous ammo clip or a dull light rocket.
*Maxxed*

Posted Sep 22, 2011, 9:14 am
P.S. In cases where drops are included on non 'runner' vehicles the thought is that in time Sam will de-nerf the drop behaviour so that NPCs would use drops effectively in dogfights.

Even under existing AI behaviour(more so recently I might add) the AI occasionally uses drops highly effectively.

In Somerset and Elmsfield, should be about as common as Da Vincis or King Silages.

Spirit Chassis

Same armor scheme as Poltergeist
Front: HMG, Napalm Gun
Left: MML
Right: MML

Lots of Napalm Gun ammo, and the same kind of 'stop and fire artillery' AI as the King Silage.

Are there any AI cars with the napalm gun?

On a seperate note I would love to see the AI behaviour modified to make them more assertive with drops and some new trader builds would be awesome!

I understand that every change requires some coding and that Sam is only human but perhaps if certain things like the template used for new vehicles was accessible players could do the elementary coding for such things so that sam just needed to compile them and do basic tweaking?

Despite being a single developer game I like to think that the community also develops the game and perhaps Sam could pass things down the line for development by delegated individuals within the community.

I started a skin for that old school style (double side doors, no windows, WWII german style, Beetle in this finish would be cool too) I just need to fix the skin for teh front end, some stretching over the lights was my issue, but pretty sure I can work around that. Your skin for it was pretty awesome too Wolf.

I found a cool hippy skin for it too, that someone else had on the net (found it just with google search) even had surf boards on the roof

Traders AI behavior

The Cacophony has some cool use of the foj. Vans can be quite devious with that MD at times. Glad they don't drop more or guarding them in trade convoys would become very tricky, could have something to do with it ;)

Love the rampho but for an NPC build would suggest an armour layout like 21/18/16/16/8/5

Players tend to be more likely to snipe so most NPC vehicles carry more top armour than players.

NPCs tend to shoot every chance they get: I think an HMG's recoil would slow it down too much.

Perhaps a Car Rifle would be better since it inflicts no recoil on the shooting vehicle.

or - even better - a RL (which I have used with rams with wonderful effect)
*K1500*

Posted Nov 7, 2012, 3:16 am
Fair call on the HMG and the differences on the AI's handling of the vehicles. I partially used a HMG because of it's weight - RL would be a suitable change (and it matches the current bulk/ammo ratio).
Splash damage up close with a rammer is always nice (I use ATG's on my rampaches). The lower ammo count may go someways to balancing it out a bit against players (seeing as it's a driver only car).

NPC cars don't really seem to be limted by the physics like we are.  Their cars do not appear to have as bad a recoil as player cars.  Never really seen an NPC car knocked far off line by its own firing.

Having C armored NPC vehicles would only handicap the NPC cars. They wouldnt be able to go as fast. All chassis regardless of armor type sell back to the NPC shop for the same price...it was a fix Sam made a long time ago. And lets face it, most new people would be re-using these looted trader cars, and they wouldnt have the money to change the armor back to B, making the game harder for new people?
*Maxxed*

Not being able to go as fast may not be as much as a handicap as you think...C armoured phos wouldnt rush straight in and would be heavier when they rammed...slower vehicle could also hang back and use things like CGL more effectively.

And more armour diversity ultimately would add a bit more variety.

Not sure what u mean about the chassis being the same price regardless of armour type...pretty sure you get more for an a armoured vehicle stripped of weapons (like a pegasus) and sure as heck costs more to replace!

It is the same. It was something Sam changed back when people were looting Pegasus cars and selling them for alot of cash. Just to make sure this wasnt "changed back", I looked at 2 of my buzzers in the same town, one with A armor, and the other with B. The sell back price was the same.

ah come on, having a sprinkle of C armor in the wild would make for a different scouting experience, variety is king right?

as for people would reuse them since it would be too expensive to replace the armor, all they have to do is sell it for the same value as B armor loot, what's the problem?

Is it particularly labourious to add new models?

This thread has been running for quite a while now and there definitely seems like there is community enthusiasm for new NPC and stockcar builds.

Admittedly I have been focussed on wilderness builds but I'm planning on listing a whole bunch of deathrace and arena builds as I think these events would be more popular if A) there was a bit more armour on builds and B) more interesting weapons combos.

There are a plethera of stockbuilds currently but an audit of player chosen vehicles and events will show that some of these builds are not desirable by players - hence not used. Perhaps the underutilized builds could be disbanded and replaced with some newer builds?

Notes: A armoured - prizes for deathraces with this build should be increased 10x fold

I like the idea of more NPC builds, for both wild and track.

Maybe someone should look through all these and pick out some that might work, and or change bits of em to work.

If I could work out the voting thing i coud doa poll...there is also some enthusiasm for an event where the winning vehicle might be added to the NPC vehicle pool(possibly with a judges choice as well as the winning vehicle)

BTW it would be great if the vehicle designer had the new chassis and weapons that have been added in the last few years.

I renew my suggestion that all DW Vets get to submit a new vehicle

Or pay a million for each ;)

Or just do what Max says b/c he's been submitting NPC designs for four years lol

How about you get to add a vehicle design if you resub for 12 months? If the designs are ridiculously powerful/silly they could always be made uber rare.

Anyway... how about if you guys can agree on say 5 new NPC builds, I'll promise to put them in??

It seems that a Wurzel with a Napalm Gun should be one of the five, now for the specifics....

Can one of you pollstars whip something up? As I doubt we will be able to agree otherwise being the belligerent lot that we are...

I would still love to see another wurzel build but suggest we dont waste 2 of our 5 options on a tractor that is a bit of a white (or should that be pink!) elephant.

Really guys! Please add a bunch of these NPC vehicles!

This would add to variety in all arena/outdoor events.

The Arena cars can use lots of rare weapons and chassis, feel free to use rotary engines etc., since they belong to the racetrack, while outdoor ones must be game balanced for region/distribution etc. and hence require a bit more caution.

For Arena cars, generally you can have a Deathrace version, and just strip the weapons, add a rollcage and A a armour for a Race version. Some cars should be strictly for a Combat event list, given they may be heavy and slow, and some Deathracers may be less than ideal for Combat. For many events, have the computer randomize the NPC's across all suitable designs, especially any "pro" events where players have their own cars.

This would take very little programming time, just a bunch of designs and a few lists, and greatly shake up events.

WE DEFINITELY NEED A NEW POOL OF DEATHRACERS

Plus death-races with a variety of stock cars...preferably new-builds with rear mounted weapons and drops.
