I'm trying various shell replacement programs, as well some desktop "enhancer" (you now, that programs that make win desktop more "functional" or just cooler).
As now, if i run any of them i just can't run DW client. His windows "disappears" just after the first big splashscreen. It happens with WinFlip and Aston Shell. So right now, to play DW i need to: 1) closing AstonShell, logout and logon in the standard window explorer shell 2) close winflip 3) disable multimonitor desktop Now, i may been asking too much, but i think that the client needs a serious revision, taking care of all "modern" environments. I know that WinXP, DirectX and OpenGL are a hell when put together, i've got my part of fight with them in the past, so i understand that i'm talking about a hard and difficult part. But needing to maintain my PC configured to play DW starts to hurts me a bit. Sorry if the "tone" of this post seems rude, it is not my intention. I just want to play DW AND do other things also |

What about creating a specific DW session?
Or buy a Mac... |

heheh
While i'm courious about other OS, i just have enough problems in knowing Windows in every deep: i need it for my job (i'm a programmer, and working mostly with graphics means that i often have to flank API bugs and "obstacles"). So when i'm at home i just want to use my PC for my "pleasure": right now, DW is (sadly) the only program that wants some care. About a specific DW session: this is the worst solution i can imagine: it will means that DW NEEDS a dedicated environment, which is a request i will not accept from a game, even from a great game like DW is and promises to be in the future. I understand also that we are still in a sort of "beta" testing, so i'm willing to "cooperate".... but not to that grade. |

Sure Parduz, but to relax and avoid troubles, you should really consider a Mac.
You are requesting features from a game engine that was designed nearly a decade ago, and that is not really written in a plug-and-play form, but instead in an old all-in-one fashioned style. So, yes, Darkwind is somewhat in a beta form, even if I don't agree - but I won't debate on this -, but on the game mechanisms, not on the engine side. |

mhh... i see the difficult of modifying it, but i will really try to avoid to write, in the system requirements, that: - in a multimonitor system, the primary one HAVE to be to left of the secondary - you can't run shell replacements other than Explorer - you can't run anything else that may require the DX libraries (not sure about this, but i have some clues that it may not allow DW to run). |
