Bug - loading error - again

Hi sam & all,

I seem to have this connection problem again, I have had a go with my firewall (following wiki advice - ports 28000 - 28005 open)..

client hanging at downloading decal stage... this is odd because I've been in two events today, 1 race,  scout with no problems... I was fighting turpins this time (would it be their decals, or a rare decal?)

Further to this, I can enter other peoples events (and I have to d/l decals then)... what gives?

event ID: S60030 - could you cancel this and put my guys back in town?

further to this, I have just entered a race, It didnt load 1st time(paused after d/ling data stage), but did second, and I played, still cannot get past d/l decal stage of entering scout however... (It doesnt even get any progress whatsoever - no blue bar)

I think I've finally worked out my problems on this...

Since the client checks to see if you have the decal already, it only downloads the ones you don't. If one that it's trying to download is corrupted, it will hang.

Same thing can happen with vehicle skins.

Anyway - if you're sure it's decals, just go into darkwind -> data -> shapes -> vehicles -> decals and delete them. It will then only download the ones you need for an event.

I was also having some problems with the client crashing during download. Deleting skins fixed that one...

Well, maybe Sam will have more insight.

bit scared of deleting all that, as I can currently do other scouts (but not the one which has my best crew tied up right now)...

Could just be that scout then, but believe me deleting that stuff won't hurt, at least on my Apple. :-)

If you're not sure what the effect will be, make a dummy folder somewhere and copy the data to it, then delete it and try it. If it works, great. If it doesn't and you can't get into any other events, you can always put it back.

Sorry for the delay - I was away myself.
It could be a corrupted decal or skin, although about a month ago I changed the code that downloads these so that it checks they were received correctly and deletes them if they weren't.
I guess it could be a file you had for longer than that?

Hope you had a good time Sam, I certainly did.

I played yesterday races, scouts etc.

However this morning when I connected for a quick scout and race I loaded client and could chat until I clicked my event at which point the client froze - well it was still there but I get no pop ups (to click play on) and chat doesnt work....

When I restart, it begins again, chat ok until I try to connect to an event... then nothing, I have had it windowed and full screen (from what I understand its better to play windowed - so will do that until further notice).

I have uninstalled and tried to reinstall - but patching hung half way (single decker bus.jpg - corrupted zip?) - so uninstalled everything and used Ccleaner to find DW issues and deleted them.

I have reset my router - and changed the ports for DW to 28000 to 28020 (the wiki needs amendment, I think this is the correct range?)...

Now a fresh install... we shall see.

please tell me if their is something else I should do?

(will report back on install and initial patching ASAP)

Hi - I'm afraid lobby auto patch has hung at file base2.dif - download 130 of 599.

I have tried this with both router and software firewalls disabled, not a state I enjoy being in!

unsure of what my next steps should be as I have d/loaded from both mirrors this morning...

please advise.

When you say it hung at base2.dif: the progress bar stopped moving? I think I recall that particular file being mentioned before.

Hmmm... I think the best solution is if I update the 'full download' which is well out of date right now. Then you won't need to patch anything at all. It will take a little while though.

one last thing - though I have darkwind.exe set for ports 28000 to 28020, i saw this article.. and wondered if there was something else I should be entering apart from the port range?

I don't think you should need anything else Hula. The main thing is that your router/firewall allows outgoing data on those ports. And that your personal firewall is allowing the Darkwind app. to use those ports.

Any other problems I have seen have tended to be caused by (1) old routers/gateways that can't cope with big packets (I have removed those all from the game though AFAIK) and (2) *possibly* some ISPs or Firewall packet sniffers blocking coincidentally-suspicious-looking sequences of data (that's only a hunch, but I think it might be your problem).

although if you look above this post in the forum, you'll see I'm experiencing the same error (d/l hangs on particular events)... weird

Back
