Q: does paint rifle's chance of blocking enemy's weapons stack?

Meaning, if I fire two or even three shots simultaneously at a vehicle, will it increase the chances of it being stuck in the next few rounds? How exactly does is the percentage chance of weapon jam calculated?

Unless you have the "Rapid-Fire" special, you cant fire more than 1 round down range from a single vehicle.

Multiple shots from different cars ADD to the jamming/targeting loss of your target vehicle. Unknown amount of time disability of weapons by Developer preference.

The Weapon Jam calculation timing is one of those 'hidden' developer calculations we have no access to.

Each paint hit blocks your weapons for average 3 turns.

'Average' of course meaning that there's some variation in there so 2 hits won't always be 6 turns.

And that quote is from a discussion about the vehicle-mounted paint weapons, but I don't think there's any real difference when it comes to the effects.

3 turns? for a paint rifle? only ever seems to do 1 turn when i have seen it.

OK.  I'm fairly certain I've never seen a Paint Rifle in action, and I read Karz's post as it having an effect for more than 1 turn.

Paint Rifles only do one turn, perhaps the question is if you hit a car with 3 shots in the same turn from three different peds would the effect stack?

I would expect the effect to stack, but all three would still only last 1 turn.

Thanks. So I guess it wouldn't be that practical to arm my vehicle with the paint rifle after all. I was thinking of creating a few "scoundrel" vehicles that harrassed other vehicles with paint, since I thought you could make weapons jam for one turn or more. But since the reliability isn't trustworthy, I'll probably pass after all. Thanks!

-edit-

OOPS! Sorry! I just realised vehicles don't use paint rifles. Silly me :cyclops:

What about paint sprays? According to the description, they jam weapons for about 3 seconds. Is this accurate, and do they stack?

I think you're looking for paint guns, not paint rifles or paint sprays. I'm unsure if they stack, but they're very effective regardless. One of the most powerful tactical weapons in the game if not THE most powerful.

Thanks Serephe. Yeah I guess paint guns are what I'm looking for, sorry still a bit confused as I've not used them yet, except once during a stock car deathrace.

Can you describe the paint gun's effectiveness a bit?

At 90-100 meters, if they're coming at your paint car, then you're almost certain to score a hit. As they get closer, you'll lose accuracy, and if they aren't coming at you directly you'll lose accuracy.

Put some on a car and take it on a group scout or two and you'll understand what I'm saying.

I do not think multiple PG or PR strikes have culminative effect over time.

Paint Rifles ( PR) are as accurate as rifles and  wiill suppress vehicles weapons on the round they impact - Ped weapons appear to be faster than Vehicles weapons ( but don't always fire first) - It does have a 50 round magazine and can fulfil a support or 'hold out' role only. $5500 in most towns.

Paint Guns (PG ) are a ballistic weapon with range out to 100m. Low recoil , 15 shot and has poor accuracy fired from a moving platform .  Targets coming contact with Paint cloud ( cloud remains airborne for approx 2 turns) have a chance of weapons jams  for ( on average) 1 to 3 turns . Accuracy at less than 30m appears to deteriorate  but this may simply be because targets are at highest tangential speed ?  No reports of self painting ? Paint cars benefit from supporting a squad of 3 of direct fire vehicles or more, so it can take a stationary 'stand-off' potion. Popular PVP weapon .SS public prices have varied  from $100k to $35K ish

I use a paint car on just about every solo scout I do. Usually, I have a Sunrise fitted with a paint gun that provides support for my other two vehicles. It works really well, for me at least.

If you are thinking about using paint, or any other ballistic weapon, you need to get some gunners trained up for them. I took 3 Sunrises and equipped each with either a paint gun or a grenade launcher. I put two gangers in each and all the ammo they could carry then formed a squad with them. Set out on a scout and then just run away from the bad guy, all the while pouring ballistics fire upon them. Swap out the gunners when changing the ammo and repeat until you reach escape distance.
This also gives you a chance to train up three skills; ballistics, driving, and scouting.

With paint guns it is also important to note that that the effect varies on whether the target car just drives through a paint cloud or is actually directly hit by the paint round.

Typically driving through a paint cloud will jam all the guns for 2 turns. A direct hit will typically last 3 turns - multiple layers of paint DO stack in my experience.

Paint clouds also signficantly interfere with targetting that passes through them.

Incredibly effective weapon when it works.

Yea i'm glad it got nerfed a bit, it's still good to use. It's awesome when using rear weapons. You paint the 2nd car chasing and often 1-2 others will get paint behind him. You paste the front car with your other weapons, after it's dead you tgt the paint gun at the 3rd car and start ripping open the 2nd car which, even if it go close, it can't shoot you.

It allows you a couple turns to recover if you screw up, too. My experience with paint rifles is it last for one turn. I don't think it matters if you shoot before the enemy car, as long as you keep hitting. Except that first turn you probably want to shoot first.
