Heh. Yeah been here 2 years and asking a question on the newbie channel.
Okay, exposed engines are vulnerable to weapons fire from the front. What about from the side arcs? Anyone know? Have a tale to tell (either as a target or attacking)? |

Only anecdata to provide, but I can't remember ever seeing an engine damage message from a side hit (unless the armor was breached and it was an internal hit, of course).

Yes, it's quite rare though.
I've had an engine fire from a CGL shot from BEHIND me, land on my 5Lv8 on my Box Van. |

Well, CGLs can land anywhere. That was probably a top hit, which I would assume they are exposed to.
Now if I actually make the vehicle I am planning I am going to be scared to death of little CGL subcompacts... |

I've had shots from the rear hit my top armor and set my engine on fire.
So I bet it could happen from the sides as well. I'm not going to test it out. |

I once blew a Desert Stalker up with a rifle hit that got engine. |

Crashing a vehicle into the wall from the side of the car (therefore damaging only side armor) also causes damage to exposed engine
I should know. I killed a car before that way :P. Anyway point is, exposed engines are dangerous, even in races. |

I was shot from about a 45 degree angle from a trailing bad guy at about 115 meters, right side, with a car rifle. Engine caught fire.
Shot from behind climbing a dune with an MG...engine hit. So yes, engine hits can happen from sides/top/behind for sure and depending on the weapon, can be set on fire rather easily...of course, that doesn't happen the other way around. |
