Just to clarify, is there any permadamage if my chassis is at 97% damage?

It's still repairable, but I'm curious whether it's taken up the "first repair" opportunity or not, as I've never damaged this chassis before.

If you bought the chassis from the NPC shop then there is no 'free first'.

The 'free first' is in place so that when you blast a car to scrap in an event you can repair it back to 100%.

If you bought the vehicle new from the shop, then it should have no permanent damage on it, and it should repair to 100%.

Permanent Damage

Thanks Marrk. I remember Sam saying something like if equipment falls below 97%, thats when the first permadamage occurs - but I can't remember for certain whether there's permadamage if it's exactly at 97%. I also don't recall if my Apache was store-bought or not :cyclops:

-edit- Never mind I just read the wiki. So, if my item does not fall below 95%, it does not get permadamage? What if it's at 95%?

That's my understanding.  This 'new' way of determining perma-damage actually slows down chassis degradation.

Dunno.  The edge conditions will be dicey, because what we see as '95%' probably isn't exactly 95%, but something between 94.500 and 95.499 (depending on how the system does its rounding for display).  So, sometimes 95% will result in perma-damage and sometimes it won't.

When your chassis receives its "free first repair" it actually still gets behind-the-scenes permadamage of 3%. So the next time it gets damaged - even if still 95%+, it won't be repairable above 97%.

I can check this "behind the scenes permadamage" by putting up my items on the market right?

Also, my chassis should be safe from permadamage since it isn't damaged below 95% right?

Er.. ye. I should probably just make it always visible.

As long as it was never below 95%, yes.

i may have missed a whole conversation... but why is there 'behind the scenes' permadamage rather than upfront honest perma damage?

cue Marrkos to point me in the right direction

You didn't miss any conversation that I know of, although there could have been one in the areas I can't see.

I think Sam's comment above is the sum of it.

That discussion ended before the latest changes anyway, so it's not really helpful.

Sam announced the changes on the sixth page of that thread. If you only see the first page, then you have the same problem with forum links I do.

Oh I know about the changes then. It's just this that confuses me:

http://www.darkwindwiki.com/doku.php?id=darkwind:updates:free_first_repair

I still am not quite sure how this works. First free repair doesn't seem to be a first free negate permadamage repair as I'd initially thought; I don't understand the part about "if it is at 99% then you will repair it to 97%".

Just way over my head.
