just looking for some tips and knowledge to what effects the rarity of the cars you encounter in a scout and what to do to have a better chance of rares.

I really want a flail or a big pickup but i'm not sure how to go about increasing the odds of one showing up.

Having a ganger with a higher Scouting skill (100+ at least, 150+ preferred), and running Scouts out of more dangerous cities (Badlands or worse) are the keys to getting rare cars. You can sometimes find them in "lower" cities, but don't count on it.

Even better....scout out of southern cities with NO scout...better chance of getting rare cars, but also better chance of getting ambushed or outnumbered even more than if you used a scout...

I'm pretty sure that does not factor in to it, from what I know, It only affects your enemy CR ratio, I have scouted FL for a good while, and I know this, what will affect it the most is the map you fight on.

Example, the smokey hills, there, you will fight a minimum of 3 cars, the firelight average minimum is 4, and I've almost never seen rares in those hills.
The Maure Dore, 5 cars minimum, no exceptions, if your enemy has over 400 CR, its rare to not see a rare.

In other words, its very map Dependant, for sommerset, the ghost town map, there you will find the most lorries out of all the SS maps.

I also know the map were the most lasers, and rare cars spawn, but that, my friends, is a trade secret...

and a FT has a higher CR than a evan enforcer. So the closer you go, the higher the enemy's CR compared to yours, Higher CR = more chance of rares.

so since you can't effect the map you fight on (as far as I know) are there any options to select when choosing the kind of scout that will give a better chance of rare cars?

5 mile FL scouts were fantastic for gathering lasers. And then smooshing them to ruin the pirate fame. :stare:

No skull, there arent, but some camps have very nice roads, thats about it...

Somehow, I have 2 different roads to one of my camps, is that a bug, I don't mind thou, one is a very good ambush map (Player wise, yay) and the other is a highway map.

Sere, FL has changed then, I have NEVER (Ok, once I saw a cutlass on a travel) seen a laser there, plenty of rare cars, just no lasers...

Overwhelmingly the most important consideration is the fame of your NPC opponent. The higher their fame, the larger range of vehicles they're likely to have. (And also the higher total CR they'll have too).

thanks for the answers.

pardon my ignorance here, but i must ask this as well.

so if the fame of the gang i choose to look for is high they have a greater variety of cars to possibly spawn with but also higher cr. so does that mean that if get too crazy and choose a gang with much higher fame then my own instead of being 4 player cars vs 6-8 enemy cars i'm more likely to face 4 player cars vs 10+ enemy cars? or does it just mean the same number of vehicles theirs will just be better and more skilled?

The higher their fame, the worse your odds, to give you an example.

Once, me and 2 others did a funscout, we took out 5 compacts, low CR, stupid setups in gateway, no scout, against Tears of blood, that bountyhunter gang had 1100 fame that day, we had about 500cr, we got matched up against 8 cars, among them 2 suv's, we were at about 1000cr disadvantage, not to mention outnumbered and outgunned.

So, either 1100 fame is not to be messed with, or sam really hates compact cars :D

Don't consider this a definitive answer, but the thing that will affect the CR ratio more than anything else is the quality of your Scout. Low Scouting = big ambushes. High Scouting = More even (CR) fights on an even (positional) footing, or even with the player in an advantageous position. I don't believe that Fame has much of an effect on the CR ratio, but I could be mistaken on that. Any gang can scrape up a bunch of cars with cheap weapons, after all.

I have a suspicion low scout skill is actually more likely to draw rares. The only time I see them is when I am running "naked" between towns. Just finished a travel from GW-BL and my opponents were a vamp, a bullet, and three buccaneers. Not a common car among them. I had a newb scout.

I know that people have spawned FTs with relatively decent scouts, but I'd definitely say that specifically hunting high fame gangs in dangerous regions at short distances with a low scout skill is a good way to lure out the rares.

Also a great way to have a really fun time.
