"Come on man," said Randy, "I got a bad feeling about this."

"You always have a bad feeling," said Daniel. He inched a little closer up the dune, just to the crest. He hadn't heard any weapons fire for several minutes.

He could see them now. They were gorgeous, the two musclecars, in beautiful condition even considering the fight. He could see the vanquished pirates as well, their cars beaten but not destroyed.

Randy slid up next to him and tried his best to see while staying low. The mysterious strangers were in the process of sending the vanquished pirates out into the desert on foot. One of them was looking over one of their cars, probably deciding if it was worth driving back to wherever it was that they came from. Even from this distance his limp was clearly visible. The cars might be new and pristine, but the people driving them certainly weren't.

The two looked on for several minutes, exchanging whispers, when suddenly a voice behind them made them jump half out of their skins.

"VULTURES."

Randy scampered onto his back to see who it was while Daniel grabbed for what sufficed as a gun. There was a large figure looming over them from a nearby crest, the sun at his back and the cold barrel of his rifle staring right at them.

"No, sir," said Daniel. "We just... we just came to see what was going on. We heard the weapons fire."

The man eyed them suspiciously. He was dark-skinned and wore a bandanna around his head to cover up for what was likely a missing ear. His huge military-style trenchcoat made him look larger than life but he hardly needed any help in that area. He had clearly seen his share of combat.

Daniel slung his weapon and went back to watching over the hill, doing his best to pretend it was no big deal that someone had a rifle aimed at him.

He looked up at the stranger. "You guys from the cities, out over the hills?"

The man nodded.

Suddenly from off to the side Randy blurted out "Take me with you!" He started pleading, almost grovelling. Daniel kicked him in the leg to snap him out of it.

"No room." the man said.

Daniel spoke up again. "What about the cars you took out? You're not just going to let them drive them away to fight another day, are you?"

"We could scuttle 'em, I guess, so they can't use them."

Daniel and Randy looked at each other. This could be the chance of a lifetime for them. Randy cleared his throat and looked to the stranger.

"I have a better idea."
