Gro, new version is insanely complicated compared to the old version, and even less newbie friendly than before.  :p

But it's helluva lot of fun.

Well, I've been messing with the new version for a few days, and it seems a bit buggy to really do anything with... waiting for the D## merge then I'll slip all you folks who signed up into my game and see how it goes.

I'm tellin you guys, watch the video tutorials on you tube... it really explains the whole game! you can spend your time figuring out how to best plan your forts instead of running out of food/getting slaughtered.

Axiin, the new version is almost completely different -- the video tutorials are out of date.

LoS, I'm mostly having bugs where my dwarves decide they don't want to work -- sometimes reassigning their labors fixes it, sometimes it doesn't. Also had a bug where even though I had tons of logs, I couldn't build anything at the carpenters workshop because it said I had no logs.

Burrow system and military system seem to have their own bugs also.

I'm playing the new version, and the basics are exactly the same.

You learn how dig, how to harvest trees, how to craft things, how to build farms, how to link levers and make traps...

How is any of that different?

For the new player like LoS, the video tutorials will be amazingly helpful.

underground farms doesn't work if you dont mud the terrain first (and that's why I lost a fort due to famine :rolleyes:)

but the rest is quite the same- only there were some shift in the prioritization of jobs: dumping items for example is exceedingly high so that if you make a storage area and designate the rocks in there to be dumped... nobody farms or brews anymore


.....and I had a dwarf that got a broken leg falling down a cliff while dodging a raccoon, which died of complications soon after.

appoint hospitals and medics before, as appointing them after means that previous accidents will go unattended

Anybody managed to arm your military squads?
Mine are on individual training, refuse to use the beds in their appointed barracks (they sleep on the ground..), dont pick up the stored armor and arms althought Ive set the squad to the stored stuff (metal armor and indiv. arms) and dont move out when theyve been set to active and I gave them a "practice goblin" as kill target.
Somebody mentioned that you have to use burrows to guide the squads, but still not sure about that part of the new military system.
Edit: Well, seems the equipping part was cos I forgot to appoint an arsenal dwarf...

military in the new version is a pita(tm)

you need to make a barrak and then activate the barrak for training - you need to make it from a bed or from an archery target if you want archers. the from the squad you activate the squad, and from the military screen you set the 'alert' to active and then maybe if everything is right they will begin to train.

Yes, got them to train. Finally. Strange thing is that I have two barrack rooms next to each other - one to train, one to sleep. And those idiotic dwarfs dont use the beds and complain... Cant await the next update!

Given how much time I've lost to this game since you guys mentioned it, it's past time I signed up really :). Other than accidentally drowning my 4 best miners, my game's really quiet. Even that event seemed to make all of the others happy as they admired the waterfall that went down 5 levels of staircase.

I'm more than happy to be a sacri^h^h^h^h^h axe or hammer dwarf.

There is a setting in the init file for saving the game in an uncompressed format that is meant to solve just this issue Serephe.
