Dan Fountain shoved the door to the Grainne Uaile open and stormed in the large main room. The bright light from outside washed into the smoky common area, illuminating several squinting patrons, but generally failing to shed much light on the dark room. He paused a moment, his eyes adjusting and looking for the rest of his crew. Before he found them, his scan met the smiling Collision Force crew on the far side of the room. Several of them raised their glasses and laughed. Dan clenched his teeth, and gave as little satisfaction to the pirates as he could, and continued to look for his friends. As the pirate scum were on one side of the room, he figured his crew was on the other. The Grainne was neutral ground, mostly, and gangs at odds typically were able to co-exist in the place. Of course, they stayed away from each other in order to keep the peace, or not, depending on their intentions. Dan found his team on the opposite side of the room from the pirates. He made a beeline for them, safety in numbers and such in mind. He didn't exactly know who was on the Collision Force payroll. A shiv in the back would not be welcome at this point. The other five personnel in the Family were sitting at a corner table and talking animatedly as he approached, grabbed a beer and sat down.

The largest one of his friends spoke. "Ello Danny Boy".

Danny Boy was what he was know as in the Family, or Guido's Hitmen as the outside world knew the gang. Based mainly in Somerset, the Family was working its way south. So far so good, until today. The man speaking was a huge brute of a man. Norbert Hernandez was his name, he had wandered out of the wastes one day and signed on with the Hitmen. Most of the family figured he was some kind of mutant. If he wasn't, he was at least freakishly strong. The Family called him "Norbie", an altogether silly name for such a large individual. But he seemed to like it, and the Family did as well, and the name just seemed to suit him. He was a hell of a large weapons gunner, had the strength to manhandle the weapons and ammo with ease, and was surprisingly fast. Incredibly fast actually, which is where most of the mutant talk came from.

"Greets Norbie, I see we are discussing today's events, and there sit the pirate scum themselves over there getting a good laugh". Danny Boy didn't look over at the others table, but Norbie did and smiled a large toothy grin, then raised his glass back to them.

"Yup, got us good Danny Boy, yes they did. Reminds me of my previous life it does". Norbies demeanor then became much more serious. "Course I am now reminded why I left that life". He then took a long tug on his beer, a far away look in his eyes. Danny Boy let it drop, it was best not to engage the large man in this particular conversation. Things tended to get broken, drunken and expensive.

"Well, what now"? Came from one of the two women at the table, who were sitting together. Danny Boy recognized it as "Hammer" Margret Shelton's voice who was sitting next to Ione "Dark" Tarwater. they were fast friends who suck together like glue. The world was generally unfriendly toward women in general, and these two watched each others backs like their life depended on it, and it most certainly did. They had signed up together, took no crap from anyone and were a respected part of the Family. Dark was the group scout and Hammer was a gifted large weapons expert. Where Norbie was all speed and brute strength, Hammer was all finesse. Although quite strong for a woman, more so than most men in the gang, she just had a knack for aiming and leading with the car cannon, her favored weapon. Ione spoke little but smiled a lot, she had laughing eyes that literally sparkled if you looked into them, as if there was something funny about nearly anything. She had a razor sharp intellect, and when she spoke it was either with a cutting dry humor, or something that was about to save their lives in the wastes. Danny Boy appreciated the latter the most, although the former was usually worth the wait as well.

"We kill that guard we were paying to keep us out of that ####". This came from "Devil" Robert Angel. He of the beatific namesake and altogether nasty personality. Another of the groups large weapons men, Devil swung, or shot, first and asked questions later. "He was supposed to keep our movements to himself. Rat bastard sold us out". Devil was getting a bit loud and animated at this point, so Danny boy tried to calm him. "I checked on that Devil, that is where I was". Devil raised an eyebrow. "Oh, and what did he say, or did you just choke the little runt to death"?

Danny Boy sighed. "Well, actually, he kept the contract according to the words if not the spirit, it is a good lesson for all of us. A bit too trusting perhaps we are. Won't change how we conduct ourselves, which will continue to be in accord to the Family's laws. However, fore warned is fore armed".

Devil for once was caught without some retort or the other and waited for more. The sixth, and as yet unheard from gang member spoke then spoke up. Glenn "Bone" McHone was a Badlands local, hired here to drive a few vehicles he had shown a knack for it, and so was kept on. He had not met with the family proper yet in Somerset, but he was a solid guy and so far had lived up to the Hitmen's standards. "What is that supposed to mean? We paid him good money to keep our comings and goings from the snakes over there, what happened"?

Danny Boy took a long tug on his beer and continued. "That was my question to him as well Bone, and well, he said while we had paid him not to say anything about us, he had not been paid to keep The Bills movements to himself".

The six Hitmen sat there for a moment, taking what Danny Boy had said in, absorbing the ramifications.

Norbie swore out loud, and laughed a bit. "Well, I see, used to be my kind of people. Sorry Danny Boy, I should have thought of that. You honorable types are starting to dull my edge". Danny Boy shrugged, "No worries Norbie, I should have known, might not have got most of the armor on the rear of Judgement melted off. Which reminds me, we need a laser".

For a wonder, Dark spoke up. "Yes, I will find us one, and we will continue to train, and meanwhile we will work in other ways. Sun Tzu once said a thousand cuts will surely bring down the lumbering beast where one blow may not".

Danny Boy wasn't so sure about all that, but he liked her spunk. Anyway, fore warned is fore armed as he had said. Pirates always get what they deserve in the end. He'd seen it a hundred times. It is a veritable law of nature. In any event, the Family had a long memory.
