Found this game based on Battlefield. WWII with vehicles. Cartoony and somewhat casual, and I don't think the system requirements are too bad.

It's in open beta test right now. The game is free to play but you can of course spend real money on premium items. However unlike alot of those kinds of games the $$$ items are for looks only, which keeps people with money from dominating the free players.

Be warned: It's addictive. But if you need a change of pace every now and then it's nice to know something like this is there.

I have never played a FPS for longer than 10 mins... BUT this is so funny, and for an old one like me very playable, thanks for the link, it is keeping me very amused

Hrmm. Well that kinda sucks. Well, the game is still technically in beta test, so hopefully the prices have gone down since then. But if they keep it up, it will break the game, making it unbalanced and newb-unfriendly and thus it will not have enough playerbase. :[

As it stands for a one-time fee of $5 I can buy a weapon or two and keep them on a permanent basis. This didn't seem to be the case in the article, though it sounded like the guy wanted an uber-weapon for free.

Ah well. If they get too greedy the game will suck and I'll just try something else.

I'm really just looking for a game where I don't have the stress of DW perma-death and that I can play in a smaller time-slot, say, 10-20 minutes. I realize I can DW solo in that amount of time but if I make a mistake there are worse repercussions and also I don't find soloing all that fun.

So far the only other game I play is KDICE (kinda like online Risk). I'd be in heaven if I could find a decent free online pirate, zombie or casual post-apocalyptic game like this one where I can fight vs humans. I can try to PvP here, but there's too many repercussions to make it viable, IMO.

PS - Speaking of pirates I tried Seafight. Grindy, sucky community. Made me really appreciate this place more.
