Is a HGG going to make a Buccaneer all squirrely in the handling department when I start putting rounds downrange?

I'm building one up right now, and I'd like to avoid the "error" bit in "trial and error" as much as possible...heh....

Thanks!

Rev. V!

It will be fine, you can compliment the HGG with a MML, and you have a deadly vehicle.

To be honest, I'd recommend a HMG/MLL build, since the HGG is not all its hyped up to be, and has slightly more recoil ;)

If your planning to go with just 1 HGG, well, you'll have a speedy but a bit underpowered interceptor, that MML can really add the extra punch needed.

From what I remember, the main advantage that the HGG has over HMG is that the HMG has a damage range of 3-4. The HGG does a solid 2x2, unless vehicle armour is almost breached.

At the end of the day, it's your choice, but I'll go with the HGG.

Actually karz, that's not entirely true, if you shoot at an armored target, the HGG will sometimes do 1-2 or 2-1.

The damage output is basically the same, confirmed it it tac, but the HMG is more accurate at range.

OK, but in my mind the increased ammo capacity makes the HGG a better choice for me.
I stuck a 3.2V8 in the Buc to free up some room, but with a HMG/HGG with any other weapon, there's no room for reloads if I take a gunner.
And I kinda want to do that....

So, if it comes down to 40 vs 20 shots and then the gun is done, I am DEFINITELY going to go with the HGG.

Yes, but the HGG fires twice every round, with no guarantee of both bursts hitting (so it basically has the same ammo capacity as the HMG). I would also go with the HMG for accuracy at range, not to mention that the HMG is cheaper to replace...

A HGG is more demoralizing however, an important point for trader chasers.

+1

Something else not mentioned yet, doesn't a HGG theoretically train up your Large Gunner faster?

The 3.2LV8 has enough ponies to scoot the bucky along VERY nicely.

ANY Gatling gun is MENACING with ANY level of sniper on the trigger.
Pair the sniper skill with "Moving Targets" and you have a serious killer in the making!

I have a level 2 sniper with level 1 moving targets and he routinely hits with a Gat at up to 100 meters.

You just can't go wrong with a good sniper on a Gat!.... IMNSHO

The secret is.........
With the Bucky, (or any good 'fast-mover') keep to the outside of the fight and 'snipe' them from 40/80 meters...... THEN move to another spot, slow down and 'snipe' some more.
Use your speed to move about the fight..... slow down when you want to shoot (slowing down increases your "to-hit" modifier/you hit more often)..... Keep the enemy targeted for AT LEAST 2 turns before firing to get the target bonus.... THEN keep firing to get the sustained fire bonus...

If the enemy starts moving toward you, MOVE your ASS before they get within 30 meters...... Find another spot to shoot from.... Rinse and repeat!

Don't forget the move direction modifier (if its still around) for front/rear weapons....

Also would a bucky take the HGG as a side mount or would it flip?

Am thinking of making some apaches like the Spectre gunships with side mounts so I can circle the wagons, would this same principle work with the bucky more so due to speed?

The Bucky is a LOT lighter than the Apache but the C/G is lower making the Bucky a better speedy side weapon platform. You may not flip...... But handling that "Bucking Bronco" may be more than you expect... In combat is NOT the time to figure out that your HGG is not suited for your car side mount.

I would not place a heavy weapon on the side mounts of a bucky without trying it out in the sandbox first to see how the driveability is affected. Most heavy weapons have LOTS of recoil and firing them from the side of any "less-than-lorry" size vehicle poses its' own dangers.
