Ok so I have survived a couple of Somerset - Elmsville courier encounters with my trusty 3.2 pickup. (The 1st run included my driver doing an unplanned sideways roll down a sand dune - this 'manuver' mustve totally confused the chasers).

So I have been going with just a driver - should I be putting a passanger in there to do the spotting or can the driver spot for themselves? Can a character get more than 1 skill increase per mission?

Scouting - not tried this yet but I have read the wiki and posts that say 'do not solo'. I'm wondering though, suppose I put together a couple of fastish cars with maybe lots of armour and a couple of HMG or SMG on the fromt each, up to a total of about 250CR for the two. Off road tyres for grip. The tactic would be to run until the chasers get separated, and then turn around for an assaut to their side. Bearing in mind my best scout is 20, what sort of CR would my attackers have? How many attacks would I get, 2 or 3? more? Would I get torn to newbie shreds?
Cheers for any input.

the scouting you are talking bout is muskel scouting, tiz the noobs bread and buter :-)

take 2 Pho's armed whit twin mmg or maby a single hmg

stick a driver and gunner in each,

go scout! 50m any way you like, then run like hell! run run run and run some more !!

this bit can take a while

wait till the enemy is nice and strung out and all but 1 or 2 have auto escaped( happens when a car gets to 500 ish M)

then spin round and bring the pain!

low skill gunners need to be oober close-range to hit so use cover to your advantage, and keep moving! mussel cars are quirk not tuff

if it all goas rong ?
leggit!

odds not good?
leggit!!

if in dout
leggit!!

thats all the push I need, Phos are a little out my bracket tho, would a couple of 2L pickups be able to cope if I lead em into the rough?

As said. Do not scout alone for you first scouts !

Join a scout forming, or ask for on ein the lobby. State that you are new, you will always find friendly people and you will learn way more (than killing your gangers on a solo).

not shure bout that, my ownly exsperiance of combet pu'ing was a disaster :-)
thay are good for moving cargo but junp round like mad whith recoil.

Pho's are fairly comon , as are sunrises (almost the same car).
you shuls be abel to snag some on groop scouts to get you started. if you say you nead one in loot phase yer scout buyds shuld let you have it :-)

you can do this kind of scouting whith 1 car, but its a bit more risky and you taktical optons are more limeted

I my NSHO, keep the trucks for courier missions ONLY!!! Trucks are just fast enough and tough enough to evade enemies..... NOT fight them alone without some decent help (better combat cars) on the wings!

Use them to get enough cash to build or buy a Phoenix with your preferred weapon loadout. rinse and repeat. Buy another Phoenix to match up with the first one, THEN you have a chance of making it out of a wilderness combat alive...... You may also get some good loot and cars in the process!

SO!... Leave the fighting trucks to the NPC's....... They look better exploding than yours do in a pitched battle!

edit:
you dont need another person in an unarmed courier truck... They just take up space and weigh you down costing you fuel. Use your scout as the driver and he will start gaining driving and scouting skill at the same time. Use the extra space for some lightweight courier missions. (You CAN take more than one mission at a time to maximize your profits as long as the destinations are the same!)

Since you will be running away while running missions, you have no need for weapons.... takes space and adds weight... Leave the weapons in your lockup till you have a chassis to use them in. (The truck cannot mount rear firing weapons ANYWAY!)

When I started solo'ing, I used a pair of 3.2L mercs. Easily replaced, they also drive over everything (with enough speed), they rarely turtle and can, with good driving outrun NPCs in Somerset.
Mercs also have great weapon options - since they can handle the recoil and are vicious when moving (gotta keep em moving) - they tend to slide A LOT, so you'll need to get used to that, but once you figure it out, you can use it to great advantage.

edit -
I still use my 3.2L mercs, though one has a 3L rotary which soon enough I'll know if it makes a difference on these suckers.

You'll notice better hill climbing and faster acceleration (torque)

Good stuff, cuz I put a 3.2v8 in one to move the engine from one town to the next and HOLY COW it flew.

Sorry about the derail there, I highly suggest mercs. lol. It could just be me though. :P

You are right Humungous.......

Mercs are, IMHO, the BEST mission runners in the game!

No weapons, minimal armor, one driver 15 unit tank..... 100 bulk for missions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Look in the wiki for my Merc set up for a mission runner!)

Use offroad tires between SS and Elms.... Offroad/Reinforced tires between Elms and GW..... Offroad/Reinforced between SS and GW..... Reinforced tires from GW to BL and beyond! ;)

JD B)

edit:
You can try to mix tires on one chassis, but THIS IS NOT recommended going farther south than Gateway...... Do your experiments on tire traction in the northern regions!

torque this is a myth.
Better hillclimb and faster acceleration is becouse of lower weight...

This was tested with 2 identical cars and the rotary weighed down with stones.

Not sure I understand, all three engines in this class, 3.2L 3L rotary and 3.2Lv8 weigh 1000 (at least that's what is showing when I look at cars that have each of those engine types).

Here's a tip no one listens to and barely anyone gives...

Put even a lil GG on the back of your courier, cut the engine you are using by 20 bulk if that bothers you that much. The accel you get from shooting a recoil rear weapon will get you out of ambushes faster. You might even hit with it and force chasers to miss you. You train guns(or perhaps lg guns) while training scout and driving.

Just do it.

If you're talking about missions, then it just completes the mission automatically when you get into town.

Autoend just ends turns as soon as they start, so that if your set up in a position and done moving your cars you can wait for the NPC's to show up without spamming TAB.

This all sounds like great advice. I use Voyagers as my primary courier-running vehicle, since they turn on a dime compared to mercs and 50% of the time the bad guys will be in front of you at the start. Tho I might try a Merc courier runner, that 100 bulk cargo sounds nice.
