I lost my @#$ the first coupla times I scouted solo. The very first time I used a (SINGLE) Voyager with 2 GG's...lol. Not enough firepower. One ganger was killed and the others went to FL as gladiators. The second time (I think my scout was too low) I got ambushed by butane. I had a windy2 and a moose against 5 butanes. I barely got away with my gangers lives. Both cars were a total loss.

Thats when I found the Mercenary. They are slow, but they carry a good bit of armor. I usually run a GG and HMG with one reload each and 3 gangers (SCT, MED, MECH). My scouts always drive while the medic and mechanic have heavy gun and gun specs. 2 Mercs set up this way are pretty unstoppable. If you cooridinate both cars so they can fire together on the same target, you can demo most bad guys before they do much damage. When you get into their side, they usually flip over. Great fun!

My highest scout is 42. It seems like sct skill trains kinda slow. Mech skill trains really fast as I have already spec'ed my best mechanic as an engine tuner. The engine tuning skill actually seems to give my Mercs more speed and acceleration in the wilderness. The Medic skill trains really slow when scouting as the only way to get exp is to have injuries and we try to avoid that... :) I have set up 7 squads with 1 ea SCT, MED, MECH. I label A1-SCT-DRV,B1-MECH-lguns,C1-MED-guns etc...(Thanks Procyon!) This helps me keep track of training and stuff. I have 4 mercs now so I can run 2 scouting groups of 2 mercs each. Once I finish w/return processing, I can launch the second group.

Recently, I have started to scout with Apaches. I like a HMG and a HGG mounted front with a GG in the back. At first I was running 2 apaches together, but that seems to generate too much CR. I was getting 5 and 6 cars to fight. So I started running a windy2 or a moose with one Apache. CR is more reasonable.

I have come to prefer the moose over the Windy as it has a much lower CR and seems more stable (much lower armor tho). I run a GG and a HMG in the Moose with one reload/ea. and 3 gangers. This is a helluva punch for such a little car.

The enemy will pretty much ignore the moose and go for the Apache. This allows me to get in close on their flank and let loose. The HMG will throw the moose around so go slow. The Apache can take a TON of damage.

I joined slackshack and have been scouting that way for several weeks now. Sometimes it is too easy. I will take out an Apache and a Moose and get a Evan Enforcer and two Desert sirens. Hardly worth it to repair armor on Apache. I find it better to go towards GW with the apaches so the enemy has a little more interesting equipment. I got a Hearse once with an ATG! That was sweet! He demoed with only minor damage!

Only other thing I have learned is RUN, RUN, RUN! It is amazing how quickly the tide can turn (in either direction)! lol! Also, if you get hosed, resign. I have lost 2 high level (for me :p ) gangers now because I didn't want to resign.

Here are some recent solo scouts to look at. Please let me know your criticisms! It can only make me stronger!!!!!

The Good:

S263940

The Bad:

S259451

The Ugly:

S264916 (I thought you only had to touch the town wall to escape)...ROFL (this one is hilarious! Total noob move!)

Love me some mercs.

I started scouting with a pair of mercs. They roll over everything, they do not turtle, they (when they get going) can go VERY fast, and they can handle the recoil of heavy weapons with ease.

They can also use that wonderful 'slidyness' to strafe the crap out of cars as they pass each other.

A pair of them and you can train up a pile of gangers in no time.

Balthazar you have discovered on your own what I've been telling every new player I meet.

2 cars with big guns will win consistently. :D

Now that you have solid cars you can add silly ones as a third to try things safely.

Get a small paint car, and watch as you neutralize 1 enemy, kill the other two and then take the painted one home nearly intact. Good Ballistic trianing too. Add a GG to it for some offensive punch.

Just be very careful not to paint yourself. You'd be amazed how fast scouts can go south when that happens.

Cool! Thanks for the tips! I will try a paint car, that seems like the logical next step. I was trying to figure out how to get cars intact, w/o destroying them ( i do that alot) lol

I think that this is an over simplification.
But always 2 cars minimum and MMGs minimum

Recoil is friend and your enemy - maintain Arc of fire everything

Another thing you can experiment with on the third car is anti-personnell weapons. Flechette guns and vehicular shotguns. Use them on breached vehicles to kill the crew without damaging the car itself too much.

Takes some planning, though, to get the weapon in the right place at the right time, as they're useless against armor. Ideally you have your third car with paint for when they're far away, and then by the time they get close you've breached a side, and then use the flechette to finish off the crew.

Ah, good plan on that paint/anti-personnel vehicle. I've been using Flechette guns and Vehicular Shotguns, but they're usually paired with a MG or GG. I'll have to try that though.

One other thing I should add along the lines of noob advice, is don't get too ####y!

I was doing really good until last weekend. I lost 2 box vans, a moose and a merc. I lost 4 gangers dead and 3 more were taken to FL.

Just remember that no matter how well things seem to be going, don't under estimate that desert siren or that demoed car.

I had a merc with full armor go from green circle to ALL 3 OCCUPANTS DEAD in 4 turns! Burned to a crisp! I had a turtled Apache right at the beginnig of a combat. I had to fight off 3 enemy with a merc only. I barely got away with a damaged engine and chassis!

All this in one weekend! :o

Demos can be the most dangerous adversaries in the game, we all tend to ignore them to our peril, i myself have lost some good vehicles and crew because i got in line of fire of a turtled demoed vehicle. they can be very deadly.

Never ignore a demo, at least make sure crew is concussed or weapons have taken damage

"Never ignore a demo, at least make sure crew is concussed or weapons have taken damage "

I got a 'Cuda chewed up by a demo'd Blitzer last night...
It did more damage in the 8 turns AFTER it was demo'd than all the turns before!

I was doing just fine, and then all of a sudden there was this giant gaping hole where my left side used to be...and it didn't stop there.
I was VERY lucky to get my gangers out of that mess, that's for sure.

Amen to that, brother.  I lost a v8 landy and a top-flight crew of 3 to a Punisher that got on my tail and heavy-flamed me.  I went from full armor to BOOM in 4 turns.

I usually advise newbies to join a camp and scout low-fame traders towards it.

Usually, roads to camps are pretty heavily policed by the members of that camp, so If you target low-fame traders you will usually get 1 trade vehicle, and 1 escort. If You focus on the escort, you've essentially got a 1 v 1 scout, which is the best learning environment (IMO). On occasion the trade vehicle will get stuck, and you can bring home some extra loot. It's not insanely profitable, but it's a low-stress way to skill up while learning scouting basics...

Thanks for the props. It's been a Looong time since I wrote that page :)

And yeah, the moose is an awesome car that is totally overlooked. I love them. I just think it's too bad that the windy2 is so easy to get, otherwise I'd use them more :)
