I had to go AFK in the middle of a deathrace and my gunner kept shooting the car in front of me, way past when she had resigned. Now my gang is scorned by Death Race Mafia, disliked by Civs, and detested by all the deathracing gangs. I know it wears off in time, but is there anything I can do to hurry it up?

Are there missions you can do for DRM? They don't seem to have any enemies to assassinate (except me!).

Can I buy off the NPC gangs by giving them money?

Yeah--unfortunately its supposed to be hard to rid yourself of negative rep so that it means something, instead of it being an easily eliminated annoyance.

I just read the big long thread on factions and rep from when they were first introduced. It seems to say that if I'm disliked in Somerset I might get attacked by militia coming back into town. Does that make returns more likely if I am scout leader, or does everyone else get back and I'm the only one who gets attacked? Would I still get attacked if I am just a member not a leader or do I make the whole scout less safe for everyone?

>>It seems to say that if I'm disliked in Somerset I might get attacked by militia coming back into town.

Yep

>>Does that make returns more likely if I am scout leader,

Yep, in my experience at least

>>or does everyone else get back and I'm the only one who gets attacked?

Nope - you all fight. Although your buddies can probably escape into town, and you probably can't.

>>Would I still get attacked if I am just a member not a leader or do I make the whole scout less safe for everyone?

Nope - it's a safe way to scout when you are wanted by the militia. Join others - don't lead.

This is based on my somewhat extensive experience from having a bad rep in SS about 9 months ago. Rules seem to change, often without notification, so it might not apply now. I did one assassination mission against civs and it took two months for the heat to come off, even with scouting against civ enemies.

Then I failed a civ mission and it had a very similar effect, although it was only 1 month for the heat to come off that time.

If you ask me, it was a little unbalanced - just a bit too hard to get your rep back. Getting hit by the militia at the gates means that you do further damage to your rep, particularly if you kill 'em all. Tricky times for SS soloing.

There are ways to quickly turn your rep around. It helps to not be based all in one town. Elms and GW are only a short trip away.

My only suggestion is to pick your Role play POV and plan out some moves. Keep checking the notice boards and stick to your guns. The heat will soon come off.

A little vague I know, but don't want to post any spoilers, all this stuff is what makes the game IMO.

I think this is a game ender for a new player, GOD I HATE THIS CODE. Shark wins again without even playing.

Petition Sam for a reset of rep. You are pretty screwed as a starting player. I am sure he will take mercy on you considering the circumstances.

Increasing DR mafia rep is the hardest in the game. Winning town events doesn't do much for it. You can really complete in Races only until your rep is repaired. You will be hunted at the SS gates by Civ friendly gangs, it really sucks for a new player. DR Gangs can really only have rep healed over time.(a seemingly long time - weeks...in your case months).

This is relatively easily fixed. Kill only Raiders, Anarchists and Privateers. Eventually yhe DR Mafia will love you. Not sure of the Slaver effect, I leave them alone but I doubt the DR dudes like them either. Leave the DR guys friends alone as well.

Did ya have to tell him that!  :stare:

Us Communists socialist freedom fighters can't afford this info to be leaked  There goes the next shipment of refugees saved from the pits  :(

;)

It can also be as simple as showing mercy to DRM in the future. worked for me with mutants many times.

killing reds wont help your rep with Civs.
But since they have no relations, you wont lose any either, and you get civ rep from killing Raiders.

You'll also get mutant rep from killing raiders and reds, and killing reds gives you slaver rep.

To get anarchist rep you kill evan red bounty hunters in gateway and use the hero points from that to get anarchists to like you.

Darn, you made me reveal my "Make friends with everyone" scheme, bastard! :D

Does it help to kill people dead, red-dead, or just generally attack them?

How do you show mercy? I could not shoot at people in death-races, I guess.

But you do for raiders, slight mistake there, I meant slaver rep from reds and mutant rep from raiders.

Pretty sure you have to start soloing though (the thing newbies are absolutely NOT supposed to do).

Dont think group scouting does much for your rep, I've never been anything but appreciated or unappreciated...maybe liked once or twice.

"Dont think group scouting does much for your rep"

It does if you collect bounties from killing Butane, etc....

May contain Spoilers, if you are like me and like to find this stuff out on your own, don't read any further!!
___________________________________________________

I guess these points, although effective, don't help the new guys. Id probably try move a small crew to Elms. DRM are strong here, but your bounty is in SS, or so I gather. If you can get some bounties here and hero points group scouting, spend them in ELms on the DRM. scouting towards SS from Elms you may find less heat than to GW.

Small courier missions from the advertised missions in the tavern may also be a way to slowly improve rep. slow, long, and yes you will have some tough runs from SS to Elms with your current bounty(if you make it to elms go from Elms to GW), but this may help as well, and you'll get the hang of this route and train your scouts. Also keep an eye on the hospital and other SS buildings for Narrative missions. Read the mission before accepting. These are a good way to quickly gain rep, and maybe a Hero point in SS or Elms, use it to bribe the DRM and get the bounty down.

Giving Mercy. If you encounter DRM gangs in the wild (Elms. Or what ever faction you are having trouble with) shoot them enough to scare em off but not breach them, when given the option to let enemies escape, take it, they'll like you for it. This may work in the arena and races too, not sure.

Are Emails still sent to new subs from Dexters, Jakes and the like? Some of these ideas I picked up from there, not directly, but it seemed to hint at some of this stuff.

Bastiel, that is pretty much what I was thinking about doing, though I'm not sure if my newbie scouts can make it to GW. I'm disliked in Elmsfield right now, but no bounty, at least. I have a mission for a Civ gang to get them some medicine from Gateway, so that should help.

"I'm not sure if my newbie scouts can make it to GW. "

You can do it, but expect a few encounters.
If you can swing it, I'd recommend at LEAST a 4L in a Buccy.
VERY forgiving cars as far as turtling goes, I love them for scouting if there's rough terrain.
