So I spawned and it was an ambush... But the car spawned RIGHT in my face... I know it's not a bug, but what the hell dude... I don't find this fair in any way, I got lit on fire the first damned turn, then basically burned to death the rest of the way... I don't normally whine about stupid ####... But this is so ####ing retarded! Honestly!
It completely burned one of my lasers, nearly killed three of my best gunners in this game, and knocked my other Laser down to 50% or below... My V8 is now also damaged to hell... Is there no algorithm that lets NPCs NOT spawn right in a players ####ing face? And the enemy car is perfectly fine...

you run the risk of that if you spawn towards the outer edges of the spawn circle. It's often best to stay right at the center.

the circle was never meant for strategic placing of vehicles to start an event. It was to allow players to correct the spacing between vehicles when the spawn happens. we had to start before the circle and if our vehicles were all merged it was cause havoc. sam tried to change it but nothing seems to work.

this game keeps most of us here because when we think we got it licked, we lost an important character or equipment and have to start over...

the response to quit is natural, i have been there many times before!

your scout feel asleep and you had a close up encounter...

This is why I tell folks not to spawn at the edge of the circle. :stare: Remember, inside circle -- you. Outside circle -- them. Stay as far away from them as you can!

I was talking with you earlier, and I got the impression that you lost your best guys and equipment. But seriously, you are quitting because you lost a laser?

I had a much worse loss than you just recently, and I'm still here. You can get over this kind of stuff easily.

I'm not "crying" about what I lost... it's how I lost it... Yes, I may seem like a little baby whining over a Laser right? Well I'm 15... To most of you guys I basically am a baby... So think what you want, all I'm saying is there should be something restricting that specific situation from ever happening again... Not what I lost, how I lost it...

I absolutely disagree, and it's these losses that are exactly why this game rocks and isn't exactly the same as ever other no real or lasting consequences game out there. It's also why we have lots of gangers and lots of cars... even when you lose your 'best' you've always got more.

You'll probably cool down and be back to play more later. If not this game probably isn't the right entertainment choice for you.

the way to make sure it doesnt happen is to know where they spawn and put yourself on the edges of the circle where they are not

At Synyster:
If a flaw in the game or a mistake you made is making you leave for serious, this would have happened eventually anyways. Because this sort of thing happens to everyone at some point or another.
Everyone loses very good equipment to something that makes them call BS, and good gangers as well. Both of the two have happened to me multiple times, for the stupidest reasons ever. The only difference is that you've went and sold all your cars, and I'm somewhat successful now.
Best of luck to you, though. You'll be missed, and now I'm stuck being the youngest here again.

Sad to see you go, Syn, and I must say I agree with you about the how-it-happened being the biggest rub.  If you lose something because you made a poor choice, then that's what makes the game great (not losing it because you get ganked in a freak spawn).

What do you mean about being right there?  You mean inside about 50 meters?  80 meters?  I mean, for a second let's consider the ludicrousness of being able to coherently drive a car and somehow not see enemy cars until they are tapping on your door.  Anyone here of driving age not drunk or completely decrepit have trouble seeing a moving car inside of a quarter mile (which is 400 meters)?

If they were hiding around a corner, then sure, spawn them closer if there's no line of sight.  Otherwise, it's a broken mechanic to make up for hooked-on-crack AI, and to add the chance of a no-win situation, which only masochists find fun.  That, unlike most of this game, is most definitely not good game design.

Just my humble opinion, and I know we all got one.  Just wanted to say I understand, Syn, and that it sucks you've quit.

Well gorde, he didn't have to set up his cars on the edge of the purple. He chose too.

That is why the purple line is there. It lets you know that under no circumstances will an enemy car be past this line. If you line up right on the line, you have to expect that maybe once in a while, a bad guy will be right there.

If you must have an RP reason for it. Call it the thousand yard stare. Call it fell asleep at the wheel. Nightmare was out fighting and driving and is exhausted and just didn't pay attention to the phoenix barreling out of the town towards him. Maybe he thought they would simply pass by on the right on their way for fame and fortune and WHAM, last second steering change means unavoidable ram sandwich.

Long and short of it is that Nightmare made a gamble in car placement and got caught.

On rough wilderness terrain dotted with boulders, trees, ravines, wind blown dust, etc. etc. etc. I'd say it's ludicrous to assume you're always going to have clear visibility.

These rough hewn tracks we travel in the wilderness aren't present days streets in their neatly ordered lines with set clearances at corners, etc.

The spawn circles have been explained before. Yes, I know they're not perfect, and I know that the distance that the enemy appears at is often unrealistic, but it's a necessary game mechanism to stop it from being too easy. If you have ever tried to program AI to do anything even vaguely resembling higher-level thought and planning, you'll realise how hard it is.

Should I put an explicit explanation of the spawning circle into the chat window when you start the event? and a warning that the enemy could appear anywhere outside it?

Sam, perhaps a second circle 10-15m outside the first that the AI can't spawn inside? Even shrink our current circle 10-15m instead of expanding our safe zone.

Perhaps a yellow line for our 'spawn area' and a red line for the 'danger zone'?

But, yeah--- an explicit statement in the chat window probably isn't a bad idea.  While I've learned over time that sometimes the enemy is really close the circle, it took a while when I was new to fully understand how close the enemy was capable of spawning.

Has anyone dug up the event Syn was in to see what he was faced with?  I might try doing that when I get home today.  Seems to me that might help clarify the situation a bit, either validating his contention that we didn't understand what he was faced with or validating the observation that taking up an 'edge' position is a risk.
