Agreed.  A vet who group scouts in SS is doing it for fun, and if they wanted loot they would solo.  As long as you don't abuse the system (eg bringing along an unarmed van full of guys, then grabbing loot when you haven't taken part in the fighting), just take whatever you want.

lol, I saw someone do this back in the Mad Mike Mega/cascade demo days.  Somebody dropped and I took their Apache, it had 1 HMG and 6 dudes in it, LMAO.  I so wanted to get them all out and charge the enemy but I resisted that temptation.

I think you'll find that he was referring to exactly what you had put, namely that you think it would be ok for a vet to demand certain loot just because he/she brought his/her shiny toy(s) along - made more of a contribution. Indeed, and I would agree with Gro here that the vast majority of vets will do the exact opposite (even if it costs them money).

1. They are doing it for fun and as a way of helping newer players out - their goal on the scout isn't to make money. They will have plenty of cash and kit already, and as others have pointed out they have far better ways to get either of these than a group scout. I have seen fairly new players luck in on a BL scout and get to pick FTs.

2. They know what they are getting themselves into, even to the point of a new player bringing along a car full of loot drivers. No matter the consequences.

3. They are grown up and accept that, as most players do, that the loot order is random and everyone can take what they like when it is their turn.

I would think that anyone who didn't think this way would be generally adverse to group scouting anyway.

Is there really any need for this kind of attitude, read what i wrote.

In what way was i ' shooting my mouth off ' as you eloquently put it.

the problem with dark-wind is we all love it to pieces, we're all so passionate about it, and ready to fight and argue about anything.

let's tie a bow around this question, it's been answered. there are two slightly different opinions, but they aren't that disparate.

there are no real loot rules, common loot etiquette is to make sure everyone who wants a cut got a fair shake. some vets don't loot in SS as a kindness, but it's not expected. some people try and do nice things, like if you got breached they try and give you preference in getting a car. try to take loot proportionate to what you contributed unless you're brand new, then some leeway is given.

I'd always prefer to make friends instead of getting more loot, so I must be a big ol karebare!

To address a point not yet made.

I took a couple of newbs out on a scout when I'd been here a bit but had not yet made my first 200K let alone million, I wasn't desperate for the cash, but I wasn't exactly flush either.

I explained to them the point of scouting (i.e. to get loot cars). I took them to the water. They ignored my advice, charged in getting the hell shot out of them.

I could have just let them, but no I had to go back to the poor position that had chosen to re-enact the little big horn, putting my gangers at risk.

They then decided to ignore one vehicle and gang up on the other vehicle leaving me to cover them against the it by putting my armour between them and it. I get a few good hits and reduced one side of the car they were attacking until it demo'd. They proceeded to shoot the demo'd car until it was nothing but burning tires whilst ignoring the enemy who was still chewing up my back armour.

In the mean time, I was getting badly shot up, but I eventually managed to pull a hand brake turn on my attacker. shoot him when he was unbalanced, and followed up shooting him as he rolled. He soon demo'd.

When the loot screen came round, one of the newbs snaffled the barely damaged car leaving me with tires. After they had taken it they asked if it was ok. I said that it was a bit late since they had already taken it.

I made a significant loss on that scout, both in repairs, hospital fees and ammo. I got two tires in compensation. I doubt the newbs learned anything and I expect they soon went bankrupt.

I haven't taken a newb out since.

Sometimes newbs don't deserve the loot. It would be nice if they asked and didn't expect it, especially when their performance has been poor.

I've looted a car in group scouts both of the last two nights. So that gives me three in various states of disrepair. At what point do I need to start passing on cars. Don't want to be greedy, but i needz the preciouses.

Never. Selling busted loot will finance your vehicle repairs if you decide not to use them.

Thanks all for the replies and discussion. And yes, JD, one of the reasons I subscribed so quickly to this game is that the player base does seem much more mature than most. Since I'm pushing 50, I don't have the reflexes for the twitchy games and don't have the patience for the bull#### in those other games.

I think that part of the reason I asked the question is to make sure and avoid the situation that Iron Wraith brought up. I know that the vets are helping out me and the other newbs by running scouts in SS and I'd prefer not to piss them off out of ignorance. (That's part of the reason, I'm beginning to post some of these questions in the forums).

(Believe it or not, I'm generally totally silent and a lurker in most games) :D

The way the loot pile is set up works just fine.  When it is your turn, take something.  It is random, and we all share time on the back tit as well as the front.  There really isn't any need to muddy up the process with unwritten rules.

From perusing the thread, I see two unwritten rules that should be shared.

1.  Don't strip cars while others still have drivers.
2.  Don't wait until your turn to start searching for what you want.

This is what I came here to say.
