What would be the difference of the scouting encounters I have in the two scenarios:

Scenario one:  Start in town A, scout towards town B.
Scenario two:  Start in town B, scout towards town A.

So I presume the gangs I would encounter are different, as the "target list" that appears from the squad page are different between the two towns.  And since different gangs are different strengths, then the difficulty of the encounter would be different.

Would the potential choices of maps be the same?

Say in this example there are three map zones between towns A and B:  Map X, Map Y, and Map Z.  If I scout from A towards B, or if I scout from B towards A, would the odds of getting each map be the same?  If it was 30% X, 50% Y, and 20% Z, would that be the same both directions?  (This is excluding the possibility of gates encounters)

Or are different maps presumes to be "closer" to different towns?  for example, if in my hypothetical example it goes like this:

[Town A] -- [Map X] -- [Map Y] -- [Map Z] -- [Town B]

Then would I be more likely to get map Z when scouting from B towards A?

Does scout distance affect this?  I know scout distance affects the severity of the encounter, but does it affect map choice?  For example, if "Once Upon a Town" is considered far away from Somerset, would I only get it if I scouted over 30 miles away from Somerset towards Gateway?  In the above example, if I scout a full 50 miles out from either town, am I most likely to get Map Y?

Theres a lot of map selection between SS and GW. I think its quite random either way.

There are currently 5 maps between Elms and SS..... 3 maps between Elms and GW.... 8 maps between SS and GW...... I am not counting the town (gates of) maps, just the maps between the destinations.

AFAIK map generation is random and you can't depend on a certain map spawning. Unless you are going to a camp with only one route like "Thebes" camp which only has the "once upon a town" map en-route to or from camp. (Unless changes have been made lately)

Hope this helped you...

OK so you're saying that map choice is strictly random, based on a linear value, so if there are 4 maps available along your path, then each one has a 25% chance of being selected... and this is not affected by scouting distance.

Does anyone know of an inter-city zone that is never reached by scouting, but only when actually traveling between the two towns?

Correct.

There are no dedicated "travel only" maps. Scouting or traveling, you run the same maps.

Rethinking this, I must say I believe some maps turn up more regularly, but this can always be the case with chance. It should even out, but doesn't always. I seem to get Highway to hell more when scouting from SS and Road to GW more from GW. These two maps would be the ones I consider most common on the route. Could very likely just be my luck, I don't scout anywhere near as frequently as some (so stop typing in here ya dumbass and go scout, I hear you say ;P ) Under Blood Red Skies, I do not see that often, shame, one of my fav maps.
