Is Elms a fruitful town to scout from?

Or is GW more profitable?

50+ gunners
100+ scout & mechs

Elms is less expensive in terms of weekly food and water expenses but purchases and repairs are more expensive (keep in mind this means you'll also get higher prices for selling looted vehicles). Pirate activity is generally lower in Elms than it is in GW and you'll mostly be scouting on maps you know from scouting in SS (hilly desert maps with sand roads) though you'll see some new ones if you scout towards GW -which is an option in Elms- although the maps will be a bit dicier, but still of a familiar format (sandy and hilly).

GW offers higher fame opponents (circa. 450), so their gangers will demo less easily (though they allegedly demo "hard" everywhere in Evan these days) and will appear in greater numbers. The advantages of GW are better hero point items (BPUs, 3.2lvs...) -though they spawn extremely rarely on the market- and that you will sometimes encounter "rarish" chassis and gear in the wilderness (3.2lv8, ATGs, Buccaneers, Motorhomes, Buzzers) especially when pirate fame is high and you scout towards BL.

One caveat concerning GW: the maps towards BL occasionally have some rough patches that will wear out your tires very quickly. Be prepared to have slightly more restricted options in terms of how and where to navigate with your vehicles. Use reinforced tires unless you only scout towards SS.

The general opinion I've seen on the board is that Elms is harder than SS (some say harder than GW because the Elms gangs are left alone to build up fame but there's disagreement)
Everyone agrees the loot is better out of GW and that Elms loot is close to the same you find in SS.
So Elms will be harder and you'll get the same gear as SS but GW will be harder and at least the loot is better.

BTW not sure about others but I seem to almost always pull 4 cars in GW. (Rarely 3) As long as I have any CR. (My unarmed cargo runners will sometimes pull 2 but usually 3)

Whereas in SS I always get 2 cars if I go out lwith a low CR.

All good advice from Groove (and Pez, as I was writing this); I personally would skip Elms altogether, and take the plunge into GW, for two reasons: One, the loot (and challenges) are noticeably better in GW; two, and most importaintly, GW is busy--Elms is only a slightly more popular scouting area than Morgan is. You can't train up very fast if you only go out once a month!

The skills and rides you listed are at the level I would take to GW; but also be prepared to get your hat handed to you on a regular basis, just like when you were starting out in SS. If you join up with established (vet) gangs on a larger scout when they are heading out, you should do fine.

And yes, get reinforced tires anytime you are driving south of GW.

:D

I skipped Elms and went straight to GW, but I waited much longer than you (circa 100 skill gangers) when I first set out from SS.

I will say one thing for Elms: if you are a racer, it is definitely worth it to have at least one or two gangers (driver/gunner) there to participate in town events. In my opinion, Elms has the best racetracks of Evan. Hands down.

I think Elms is a safer place to get used to fighting returns than GW, this is an invaluable part of learning how to scout further south. As mentioned earlier the Elms-GW maps will give you a nice step up in difficulty.

I wouldn't worry too much about tyres, you can get to/scout anywhere with OR tyres if you are careful with your speed and control.
