I've got a couple of SUVs and crews I am considering moving to Elms, but I've heard some comments about the risk/reward trade off not being worth it there as compared to SS. What exactly does that mean?

My scout that I would bring is in the mid sixties and my gunners are in the high 40s low 50s.

Thanks.

The opposition is much tougher in El, expect some serious challenges with your crew. That said the retail value of loot is higher, and so are your repairs

Group scouts in elms are also rare

Having said that, if you see me in the lobby, I can often take you out with my 138 scout there

Just don't scout Elms-Gateway, and make sure scouting distance is set to 25 or higher, and you should be fine.

I scout in Elms these days, and am going to continue to do so until the roads are safer and I can return to SS. Look me up if you want an Elms group scout.

Thanks for the feedback.

Would it be better to bring a couple of muscles at first and scout with them to keep the CR down, rather than bringing more heavily armed landies or apaches?

The Elms-SS maps are the same if you scout SS-Elms, so it depends on your preferences. Go with muscles or sedans if you want to get comfortable first. Me, I think my last scout with muscle cars was about a year ago ;). Loot-wise, there's the occasional Pulverizer and Mutant car.

Just don't loot anything with less than 50-60% engine. You will get returns, otherwise similar to SS.

Good tip. I'm even seeing more of those in SS, my best scout has one leg now as a result. It has been slow for me to learn this, but grabbing every car in the loot window is sometimes pennywise and pound foolish.

What I do on a return is to quickly get the guys in the loot cars to book it and hightail for their respective cars. You place the loot cars beside your own cars (not too close or your peds run the risk of being hit), and then set speed to 0 with handbrake. Let cars slow down on Turn 1, then eject the peds on Turn 2, and they'll be safe by Turn 3, that is if you don't get them to board the wrong car. I only ever had one mis-calculated situation, where I placed the wrong car beside the loot car, so my ped had to run further than usual to get to his car.

The good thing about Elms returns is that they're very predictable. I don't think there are returns where the enemy spawns behind you, and the only time I ever got a return where the enemy didn't spawn in front was an ambush.

You're assuming that some people don't cram loot into every available space and don't eave room for your returning gunners.

...I 'may' have done that a time or two.  ;)

Yea I always leave enough space in the backseat for my gunners. Now and then I will mis-calculate, but these rarely coincide with returns :p

I think there was only once that I can remember from recent events where I was in an "oh knrl" moment because I had ejected my ped, and realized the car was full. All ended well though, thankfully.

Which is what I do.  I've 'pushed' home a few wrecks in the past and try to keep a few rounds of FOJ left over for the run home.
