So far as I've been able to discern the warband version is a slight update with moderately better graphics and a few tweaks to the economic/political aspects of the game that improved gameplay, but I never played the original. There's a lot of fiddling with your party of heroes, their interaction, and skills... making a cohesive team set, managing your reputations and relationships with various factions. I got it on sale from Steam quote some time ago for like $20.00 and it was able to suck me back in for a second go at making some characters and playing them through, learning new and different details tactics etc. this time...
