Dunno I didn't really think money was much of a measure for success unless you are pretty sad...

...even less in DW were you cant spend it on anything useful like women and beer...

every measure of success in DW just shows you just grind the game a lot except your gangers dying of old age...

..which you can achieve by doing nothing

It can be a personal measure , so why is this sad... everyone needs a goal, wether it be a personal one or not, then again i waste my time writing this as you have me on ignore

Gro.. sometimes you really disappoint me.

if you want a score system sam could easily add an optional one... but the fact people use cash as a score system distorts the game for the people who are actually trying to play a post apocalyptic car combat game.

you are turning into Latte / longo / the old guard.. happy to crap on the game for newer players to keep personal score.. I like you.. i like latte.. i like longo... but you are all deeply wrong.

Goat, for someone who says he's for newer people and that vets that want to keep money are evil, you sure are good at ignoring the ramifications on newer people if a barter system was introduced inplace of money...

You know, minor things like... the impossibility for any gang without rares to trade for rares... just a minor thing, no worries  ;)

Current system

Rookie - "I want to buy a buzzer"
Vet - "That will cost you 800k"
Rookie - "Been saving money for a few weeks to buy one, yay"

Barter system

Rookie - "Will you trade me a buzzer?"
Vet - "What do you have to trade?"
Rookie - "Errr... 50hmg's, a bunch of phoenixes... maybe a flash?"
Vet - "..."
Rookie - *Tears*

you really need to go spend some time reading some books and watching some films and get your head out of your arse Firefly.

you shouldn't be BUYING a buzzer.. the only way you should get one is to steal it. They should be so scarce that nobody in their right mind would part with one they had acquired.

The issue with money in the game has always been that it is too easy to get because all loot is valuable.... and it has always been nothing but a way to keep score. Most players deal in a barter economy all the time. better still an alliance economy. Removing money would create proper game progression where you have to loot and up-skill your way to prizes not just grind out a million dollars looting symphonies in SS and then buy a buzzer.

Uhh, yeah goat, it would be all well and good if the game was built around this from the very beginning, actually, one of my favorite strategy games, Soldiers of Anarchy used this to great effect.

If you wanted that tank for your squad when they first show up, you have to pay a lot, and when I say a lot I mean most of your armored vehicles and almost your entire stockpile of weapons, given that the only way to acquire weapons is to loot/steal them of the enemy or trade for them, it's actually a rather bad trade as you need all that stuff to begin with, sounds exactly like the system you want in DW, just replace Armored Vehicles with Cars and Tanks with buzzers, and voila!

Did I mention the game is post apocalypse? Just without the rather silly notion of all military gear going missing for some unknown reason, anyway, point being that a barter system can very well work, given the game is based around it.

However, it will not in darkwind, introducing one at this point would be like cutting a huge line between the ones that already have them and the capacity to easily loot them (Like you or me goat) and newer guys who would have it incredibly tough to loot their first apaches under said system.

I'm going to tell you what you've told me before, instead of trying to make DW the game you want, maybe you should go find one that suits your tastes better?

Honestly Goat...It is already this way for many of us.

I hardly pay for anything anymore. If I want a buzzer or mortar or CC, I just ask one of my friends for one. Just like they know they can always ask me for one. The newer guys use cash and I will buy from them or purchase from them because they havent gotten established circle yet.

As one that used to be richest in game...Giving most of it away...I currently have 11 Mil and has stayed pretty much right there for months now. Its like my nest egg. I scout and use A armor on almost anything to use up my cash. So my im usually close to breaking even by weeks end.

the fact that the game isn't working as intended does not make it the wrong game... when the physics glitch Sam fixes it and everybody applauds.... when the economy glitches he cant fix it because numpties like you start banging on and complaining because you realise that fixing the problems would remove the strangle hold that people who are unemployable and can play 24 hours a day have on the game.

Great.. we have created a game that benefits the lazy shifless idle unemployed feckless wastrels! hooray!

Goat, I've barely played the game for a good long while now.

And I'd love nothing more than a fixed economy, but what you want would require a complete server reset, or it would just break everything further.

And any game always benefits the person who can put the most time into it, this goes for any an all games and is the very foundation of them, a game that rewards a player for only being able to play half the time of another person has it all backwards.

Rewards should be proportionate to effort, and that's how darkwind works.

I have quoted Goat only because his was the longest post I will refer to in mine.

Most of you make good points regarding not having money. It's interesting that right now with our uncertain American economy, gold has reached all time highs per ounce. And yet people keep purchasing it because it is the standard and if the economy ever collapses, we will use gold for currency. << Complete Bu||$#!t there.

We would default to the barter system. Prices would skyrocket for everything devaluing money and increasing the value of any commodity in demand. I need a gun, here's 5 gallons of water. I need some vegetables, here's 5 gallons of fuel. I need meat to feed my family, here's a safe place to sleep tonight for your cow.

I also like that if you want a buzzer, go out and find one. This is how I got my FT that was subsequently stolen back from me by the pirates I attacked. I like the concept, but this is a game after all and people like quantitative numbers to set goals and accomplish.

I, like Latte have an amount of cash (in the millions) and assets (in the 10's of millions) that doesn't fluctuate much. I could purchase pretty much anything I wanted including a camp with the amount I have. It's an amount built up over 3 years of playing with 3 children and a full time job. Some of you who play multiple scouts a day or have time for a mega 3 times a week could probably acquire the amount of money I have in 3 months and while I don't think acquiring lots of money is sad, I think that the ability to acquire that much in such a short time is.

I agree we should have a barter system ( barter town anybody )

BUT i also agree that we would need a complete restart for this to be even attempted.

How many people would leave if we did roll back to nothing.

How much work would this involve for Sam ( maybe more than he can handle by himself )

I dont consider money to be an accomplishment i want to bandy around with others, it is just my own satisfactory measure of achievement per week in my own solo world of DW.

Give me some ( lots ) of more ways to quantify achievement's and of course the money aspect would dwindle.

BUT what really concerns me is without a server reset, a whole new barter system can not be implemented.

As this would never be a fair system for new members ( who we must keep for fear of DW drying up )

so how many server resets would we require.

seems to me this would take us down the road of a lot of mmo type games.

we would need consistent new worlds opening up frequently ( as in tribal wars etc, ) to allow new players to have a chance of playing like an older member.

Nice idea, but to my mind impossible to implement.

unless you know different ?

I can only think of a few cars I've bought: my 57, my Flail, and my Windsor I. It's absurdly hard to find any of those in the wild if you go looking for them, so it's easier for me to just buy them. Besides, what else am I going to do with all this money?

The rest of my stuff-- the stuff I regularly use-- I find in the wild and fix up.

Sorry not being antagonistic here, but why does it have to be fair?

And what is so unfair about a barter system initiated tomorrow without warning?

So you think a bunch of people who have never played the game would signup and leave after 3 months for lack of finding a BPU, or Buzzer themselves?

The first car I bought from a player, a Royal Eaton, left a sour taste in my mouth, but then again they never spawn anywhere except the shops...

In Egypt they used to say millions were like rabbits, once you had your first two the rest came rest rapidly

That was probably because the whole economy was screwed up and corrupt

I can clear an easy profit each week just trading, hardly playing

I'd imagine many do even better

If money is really the measure of success in DW, then the game doesn't work properly

Probably the various leagues and ladders are more of a measure of success, but I personally don't participate in them because they take more time than I care to spend

If you want to use a barter system, do it on your own via the marketplace. I like money.
