Thomas Simms sat uneasily in the dark dusty backroom of the Groove Champion Gateway headquarters. He could hear the gruff, weathered voices of a few veteran members through the thin walls of the room.

He was nervous and felt certain he was the newest recruit among this bunch of varied warriors. When the Champion ganger had walked into Mezcal's not a week ago, he had not immediately offered the job to the entire bar. He had walked among the tables, which became oddly silent as he made his way around them.

Thomas had not heard the hushed conversations between the recruiter and the men and women she had spoken to before speaking to him, but the excited expression on the many faces, followed by a curt dismissal by the recruiter -and a saddened resignation on the others' faces- had told the young keen Simms that the Champions were recruiting, but they didn't want just anybody.

When the slight figure had walked up to the bar where Simms sat, he had felt intimidated by her rough overcoat, her dark flickering goggles and the scarred skin shaded by a heavy hood. He did hold her gaze as her hidden eyes passed over him. He felt he must look unafraid though he felt otherwise.

"I am Kar Warr. Do you know who I am?" the shadowed figure had asked.

Thomas had swallowed heavily and nodded curtly.

"Good. What is your name, son?"

"Ah. Thomas... Thomas, ma'am."

"Can you drive Thomas?"

"Yes, uh, ma'am."

The figure had stepped infinitely closer and paused for a moment while she continued to stare. Her voice dropped to a sharp undertone.

"Well?"

As Thomas sat in the backroom, he began to have doubts about his answer to that last pointed question. These guys didn't look like they wanted to mess around.

His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the door opening behind him. A tall figure entered and said gruffly:

"So you're the new guy? Seems you can drive. I'm not going to waste my time teaching you anything then... but you see that TV in the corner"

Simms glanced at the dusty antiquated box sitting on a shelf against the opposite wall. The man handed him a small disk.

"Watch this. And watch it carefully. If you're going to drive for the Champions, this is exactly what we expect you to do when faced with an enemy. You have your list?"

Thomas nodded energetically as he took the disk. The tall figure said nothing more and left the room. He stared at the small paper -the list- the man had referred to. Only a single name was written on the paper, the same that was printed in shaky handwriting on the disk: Goose.

Simms popped the disk into the player and watched attentively.

"What's this?" Geoff asked his 2IC, Rebecca, as she passed him a disk.

"Training video, 'borrowed' from the Groovers."

Geoff raised his eyebrows. He'd only been back for a handful of weeks but was mightly impressed with his new off-sider. While her full potential had been realised in some respects, and found just a little lacking, she certainly knew her way around town and had a knack for getting things done. No doubt this vid would be of interest.

Queuing it up on the ancient machine, Geoff allowed himself a small smile when he realised who the combatants were. This smile grew, split into a grin and then he burst out laughing mid-way through the first lap. He switched it off shortly after, not bothering to watch the rest of the race. His rumbling laughter still filling the small room he used as bedroom and office.

Rebecca allowed herself a quick grin, pleased she had made the boss laugh.

"Well," Geoff rumbled once he'd stopped laughing, "it might not be instructional for our purposes - DR's not being a part of our MO, but make sure a copy of this gets out to the rest of the squads. It'll boost morale, for sure!"

Thomas Simms wakes with a start and has to focus for a moment before he realizes he has fallen asleep while the video was playing! He stands and moves to the disk player. He pushes the eject button and waits, but no disk is ejected. Fear begins to grow in his heart as he wonders at this. He glances around the room and notices the open window and the slight footsteps left in the dust on the wooden floor leading to the television shelf.

The boss won't be happy about this he thinks before sneaking off to his bunk.

Some weeks later, and copies of the disk were now considered an essential personal item, everyone wanted to get one. Collin 'RattleYerDags' Scaggs, Boss to local DD crew, sent a message through to the Somerset chapter suggesting the manufacture of more vids of similar footage.

Word back confirmed The Dionysians will pay at least 50k for the next vid of Sock Monkey Killaz getting hosed.

Not enough interest, hey? The DD boys will pay no less than 250k for an event ID where a member of the Sock Monkey Killaz gets 'teabagged'. Probably up to a Mil, maybe even a Laser if it's an epic event and a high level toy-fondling, poop smeared ganger gets the balls to the face.
