The Chassis Types page seems to be rather out of date at this point... might we be able to get an update on that sometime soon? Mostly just curious about the general strengths and weaknesses of the new chassis.

/seconded. Call me a micromanaging bastard son of a micromanaging bastard, but I take some distant perverse pleasure in browsing information sheets of stuff I will eventually be able to afford to own only to realize that they are not real and my time has been wasted which fills me with an intense need to subdue this non-constructive realization by browsing information sheets of stuff I will eventually be able to afford to own...

Maybe you'll find this helpful then:

http://negasonic.no-ip.org/dwcars/

I've been gathering data on all the chassis there.

Also I too would like to see the official chassis page updated (and with more info too)

That is an EXCELLENT list you have there Alo!

Maybe get Sam to implement it into the info pages just like you have it.

Well, so he claimed. But I seem to recall some subtle, hidden tendencies towards bastardly micromanaging... It's in the blood, you know ;)

The problem is, even adding a table for each engine, you're still not taking into account things like weapons and armour, because the weight of the vehicle is going to drastically affect these things.

I don't have that sort of data myself wolf, it's not programmed like that. I control the forces produced by the engine, and the weight, and the ability of the chassis to go fast, but I don't know exactly what the effects are going to be.

With all these new 4 door sedans (my favorite car type), I'm having trouble choosing! Updated chasiss page would be helpful (though I know it's probably low priority.)

I think having pages like that is important in attracting new players as well.

Sure, but maybe some of the info can be players provided, and not always relying on developpers (mostly Sam) work... some kind of fan pages.

Alo's page is here:

Chassis Page

Alo has made a great page for checking your cars, engines, armor and weights of the cars....

Most of what you asked for is here....

Thanks Alocalypse!

Thanks for the updated chassis page, Sam! Alo's page is great, but I'm guessing you have an easier time updating, given that you have access to all those hidden car stats we are all hoping that you will one day reveal but at the same time hoping you will never expose to the harsh light of post-apocalyptic day...

But I ramble. Here is my question: The updated chassis page has some drastically different figures from the old (and Alo's) page. Are these due to changes in the different cars since the page was written, or just simple misspellings?

One example in particular is the phoenix/buccaneer/sunrise/stormer/moray, which all have their toughness listed as "Strong", while on the old listed, it was listed as "Average-Good". While I certainly do hope this is true, is sounds unlikely that these skirmish cars would have armour almost comparable to the chomper...

And a second question: handling is no longer listed. From what I've understood, the handling of a car in Darkwind is not only a result of the weight of the car and the engine, but actually of the distributed mass physics of the car in question. If so, a "handling" trait would be a great [re]addition to the chassis page.

All in all, thanks for the updated info, and here's to hoping the armour of my favourite firebird (the phoenix, actually, not that other imposter car) is "Strong"...

Handling and a bunch of other options are optional checkboxes at the top of the page. I like this page but wish it was more up to date! It's good work though!

No, I'm not talking about Alo's page, but the newly updated official chassis page avaliable here. No handling, as you will see if you look at the page.

You see, that was why I thanked Sam for the updated page, not Alo, and why I mention Alo's page in comparison with the updated official chassis page ;) While I do agree that people generally have very little awareness of the world around them, when it comes to gamers, and their nerdy hobbies, you'd be far better off assuming your fellow gamers know what they are talking about, and reading their posts thoroughly ;)

I left handling off because it's not something I directly enter into the database as a simple number. It's a mixture of factors, including the centre of gravity, the wheel positions and sizes relative to the main chassis, the suspension characteristics and the tyre characteristics. The end result is that I'm not really an expert in exactly how they handle. It's possibly something that would be better entered as a Community Comment.
