Is the amount or type of npc cars that you get dependant at all on what value or quantity of items you are carrying?

My Box van kept getting encounters with vampires and stuff when traveling between GW and Badlands.

Still is not a problem now, seeing as I have lost both my vans now, but was just wondering.

Thanks.

Oh and any tips on transporting? I fail a lot at it especially if they spawn a vehicle in front of me.

It can sometimes have an effect on NPC CR, yes, if you're carrying high value items. It depends too on the talkativeness of your client.. how likely are bad guys to have overheard your deal etc.

The actual vehicles the NPCs have is somewhat affected by your vehicles, but not by your cargo.

I guess you're running the van solo? ie no escort?

After 2 days running a solo Box Van near SS, and having 4 ambushes that were all pretty hard to get out of involving rolling the BV many times, I decided 2 pus were much safer for the same job with less outlay (I can break a 3.2Lpu with no dramas. 5Lv8 BV.. is some stress for me), less repairs (almost never got shot), more bulk carried (depends how you do it). Yes I could make the trip, but chances Id lose or damage some or all the cargo seemed high. For GW to BL, Id use a couple of escort. Once you get used to some escort, you can move just about anything with.... less chance of dying. A bad spawn is a bad spawn. A mad man red neck in a toey v8 Osprey is a mad man red neck in a toey v8 osprey

Agree with Bas - if you don't have a fleet of Lorries and need to haul a lot of stuff nothing beats the stripped-down 3.2L PU. With a 25 or 35 unit tank you can go anywhere. It also makes a great support vehicle for larger squads by serving as a fuel/ammo truck. If you belong to a camp (and contribute) upgrading to full-A armor really helps, both for speed and fuel efficiency.
A 2 LR also works great and means you don't have to worry about an exposed engine.
If you want to fight with it you can throw on a couple paint-guns...

I'm not sure if I've ever lost a boxvan(some real close calls ---oh ya I did lose ONE)

Anyway chances are you have it equipped wrong.

One rear shooting weapon (CR or HMG) and one dropping weapon (FOJ)

You are golden. Still chance of getting smoked of course.

"involving rolling the BV many times"

I have made tons of trips to Ft. New in my 5LV8 boxvans...I've lost...3?

I live for epic air!

The trick with high speed BV runs is, just keep it going more or less in the direction it WANTS to go in.
Don't fight it unless you HAVE to.
Course corrections at high speed are the killers, ESPECIALLY on uneven terrain.

100 mph runs over dunes etc, with 2-3 turn airtimes from jumps are quite common for me.
They don't roll.....
They do some seriously crazy things, but they don't roll.... ;)

Now, losing one because the armour is paper and it gets shot up?
It doesn't happen very often, but it DOES happen from time to time.... :(

I run a BV with a MD and a FOJ in the rear, though I may take Joel's advice and swap out the MD for a HGG.

I'd like to know more about how to use dropped weapons most effectively. I haven't done a lot of cargo transporting, but every time I've mounted a dropped weapon I've ended up wishing I just had another gun.

Well, if you're talking mines...yeah...agreed.
They never stay where I want them when I'm moving at high speed.

Now, flaming oil?
That stays right where you drop it!

Mines and spikes are useless. FOJ is where it's at.

I used to run A armor unarmed box vans (past tense). I had alot of good luck between SS & GW. The trick was go go off road. I lost my two box vans on the Elms gate map. There is no where to run if you get a bad spawn.

I like spike droppers for small cars because of their small bulk. They will rarely flatten a tire but will make the pursuing vehicle swerve.

Even plain old oil is useful. Dropping it in the choke points of every 'easy way' path you take encourages the AI to do stupid things while trying to avoid the oil. And after they run through it they have a harder time following you if you are maneuvering at all.

ya mostly it's about making them drive into eachother to avoid the oil...but if they do hit it they shred their tyres (often blowing them out and not chasing you) or even demoing! even blowing up on rare occasion.

HMG rear is accurate(reasonably) and the big thing is it acts like a rocket booster. it's used for accel more than hitting when you are young...

You get bonus points, but only if you land with a lip trick.

Ya not driving it hard enough  ;) Points about going with it are good ones, I found that a bit hard in the Elms - SS dunes. Amazing what a BV can do though.

To add, never lost one (did bash up some 5Lv8s though. 4L with HMG in the back is fast enough to outrun a flash), trips just seemed much more dangerous. If you don't have the guns to kill the enemy, people running solo BVs deserve to be randomly eaten by sandwords or other large bus sized critter. Unarmed anything bar a small courier, should be really dangerous.
