Yep, and here comes another that I had forgotten about:

å, ä, and ö are not working. Not, perhaps, a big priority for you english native fellas, but mine and Rhalp's IM conversations are becoming increasingly confusing these days, since just about every other Swedish word contains one of those vowels ;)

I splitted the thread for convenience purpose.

Why are you talking your own language? ;)

Mind explaining the difference between both 'a' (damn I don't have those ones on my french keyboard...)

Heh, I figured as much. But between haunted cars and at The Immortal Mister Kinlaw, I thought there was room for some more romantic occult interpretations of digital everyday phenomena.

Good question, though. Why ARE we conversing in Swedish, Rhalp? Varför snackar vi svenska egentligen? :p

Hmm, do you mean the direct graphical difference between å and ä, or the semantic and linguistic difference?

On the graphical side I can figure myself ;)

Heh, I kinda figured you could. Except if you are using some obscure BSD unix distribution which has yet to recognize the existence of other countries  ;-)

Well, the 'å' vowel sounds somewhat like a dark and hard 'o'. Like when you pronounce 'more'. The 'ä', on the other hand, sounds like a very hard, whiny and aggressive 'a'. Like the vowel sound in 'bad'.

As for the reasons they exist in the Swedish language and alphabet, and if they actually fill any direct linguistic purpose... Well, I'll refrain from answering that to avoid provoking the national pride of any other possible Swedes (Swedes who haven't got one fot in the Cape of South Africa all the time, and therefore don't consider themselves citizens of two different nations ;) ) in these forums ;)

EDIT 1: I will never understand the quite tag in this forum system. Very... moody. Works fine sometimes, doesn't work at all a few minutes later. Kinda reminds me of... uhm, no, wrong place for that discussion :p

EDIT 2: I DO understand it! Sneaky 'Format MbCode' checkbox!

Heheh thanks.
Is there any example you could provide in which missing accents could lead to a misunderstanding, I was told for example that Chinese can be pronounced in three different ways, while it's written with the same pictogram, it's just based on context, and thus one pronunciation can be completely wrong... :stare:
