Not really an issue until scavenger....

If you refill, say, a 2-unit gas tank from your lockup it consumes an entire can of fuel. So now I'm stranded. hahahaha

Suggest having lockup fuel stored in bulk (e.g., "Your tank contains 38 units of fuel"). From there you can fill cans for transport or tanks for cars, but at least you're only using what's actually needed.

Will trade ammo/water for fuel in Elmsfield, btw.

Yeah everything works in whole units. Scrap for repairs, for instance. Not sure how much work it would be to fix this, but it would also help the ammo situation being able to get those spare rounds of weapons.

You need to get a 50 mech to resize your fuel tank in units of 8 to be efficient, I wonder how hospital works with medicine :stare:

Since no one has enough ammo to carry lots of spares, just throw one of those cans in cargo.

Now I've not tested that, so I don't know if you come back with no fuel or not - guess it depends on how far you're scouting.

If you get into a portion of the can the can is gone. I started noticing all this when I got the brilliant idea of running over to Elms to pick up some water. Now I've got my only decent car stuck in Elms and none of the events are paying in fuel. (Anyone need water? Come get it! hahahaha)

In short, this is a real problem in a world where ye olde petrol is hard to come by.

Mental picture: My idiot garage-boy keeps hooking the can up to the car then wandering off to stare at Rev's nuns. He comes back to a full tank of gas and a car sitting in a pool of fuel. Looks for sponge, curses apocalypse and lack of cleaning supplies, leaves fuel to evaporate and pushes car out of garage to avoid blowing up the entire gang.

...and since there are no garage-boys out there who WON'T do this, I can't even fire the guy.

Fuel is going to be a problem, to be sure.. but one I think we can adjust for... the problem is how to only use one can of gas instead of a full fill.. I'd like to be able to just get enough gas in my car to go out, and then leech my fuel off my victims...

One way is to resize a big tank then syphon off what you can get from the loot screen (there is an option for that btw) never tried myself heh

I'm pretty sure my mech isn't talented enough to resize a fuel tank. But I'm betting he IS capable of improvising a big ol' steel container for storing fuel in bulk.

Nope.  A gas can is eight, or maybe ten units.  That's why I'd like to see this fixed... if I refill a 2-unit tank from my lockup, I'm losing 75% of the fuel the gas can holds.

The only option I can think of that sounds feasible, would be that once you refuel a car from lockup, if your tank size is smaller then the fuel can's units, you could then select additional cars to refuel, until all 8, 10 or however many units the can holds become exhausted.

This way fuel cans don't have to be converted into fuel units directly into the coding. Could be a quick fix until such a way to convert fuel cans into fuel units could be implemented. If it even can be done.

Couldn't this be fixed with a single variable per town called "free gallons"? You can convert one can of gas to 8 free gallons that can be used to fill up your cars with "Refuel from lockup" (refuels from your town's "free gallons")

I dont see why this is an issue?

Its the same with ammo when you reload half clips.
Sure, its not very realistic, but I dont see any problems that is disturbing for gameplay as long as everyone is aware of it.

So, just so your aware, I found a bit of a band-aid for big tanked vehicles... My pu has a tank of 12... That being the case I only need 8 to get where I wanna go... As that is the case, what I do is load all the cans but one onto vehicles, leaving only one in my lockup, and when I hit fuel from lock-up, I only use the one can giving me 8 units... Better than 2 giving me 12... A band-aid... Really liked the "units" in storage option... And if that's do-able, could we also A: choose to put in only so much and B:(what I'm hoping for) siphon gas FROM our tanks to our lock-up... I can do it in the field... I'd love to take the 2 units out of the vehicle I'm about to scrap for that soon to be very important Scrap Metal...
