I've done two scouts.
I've heard that you can have additional encounter(s) after the first, on the way back.

But every time I finish looting, I'm the last one left on the looting screen. The only thing I can see to do is hit ESC. I wind up crashing and logging back to the lobby.

I don't want to be ditching the group or having my cars inactive or some other horrible thing.

1)What am I supposed to do and what is supposed to happen at the end of looting?

2)How can I track where we are and if there's going to be a return encounter?

3) Can I 'get back in the sqaud' if I crash out and have to log back in?

You can choose 'Finish Looting and Exit' from the drop-down menu. It's not uncommon for the game client to crash when looting concludes.

There's no way you can get separated from your squad. Regardless of if you're logged in, your vehicles and characters are still in the squad. What you have to do is make sure you're available in the event of a return. Keep an eye on the chat, where the scout host will announce if there will be a return or not.

If you aren't around for the return, it will inconvenience the other players. They'll have to operate your vehicle, and if they lose it, there could be #drama.

1). You are supposed to pick loot. Take a car with an engine over 50% if you can. Better not to spread yourself too thin...leave your own car or cars manned to fight. When you're done, hit escape and select exit. If your client crashes, just restart the game and nothing is lost.

2) monitor the lobby. That's where you are when you start the game client. The squad leader (owner of the squad) will process it when everyone has finished looting. The squad leader will say if there is a return. If so, it will pop up on your screen and you'll enter just like the initial event.

3). Yes. In the lobby there is a tab for live events. Click it and select your event (your squad versus some wilderness gang ). Press play.

By the way, consider not being last in the loot window. You don't have to take every last piece of garbage and sometimes it can be dangerous. There's nothing wrong with being last, just something to think about.

There IS something wrong with taking a long time when you are last. Everyone has to wait for you to process the squad and see if there is a return. Take what time you need, and then exit.

Advanced tip: if you loot a car and take someone out of one of your original cars to drive it home, leave 20 free bulk available in the car he exited. This way, if you have to fight a return (rather than flee from one) you can exit the looted car, re-enter the (hopefully) combat worthy car he used to ride in, and fight at full capacity.

Sometimes this can be the differance between coming home all beat up but alive instead of having to dig more graves and say goodbye to your entire team that went out.
