"Boy" Toi Maddox stepped over the outstretched body of Dennis Phu. He'd be fine, she figured, once he woke up from his fist-induced nap. He was lucky she had stopped there. After driving through the night to get to Gateway, she was pretty pissed at the condition she'd found things in. She knew this was going to be stuck on her, just like the loss of Black Tongue and that narcotics shipment that had disappeared. It was always Boy's fault.

Crossing from the trash strewn dispatch office to the main shop floor, Boy did a quick once over on the condition of the two Apaches and the Landrunner that occupied the space. She could hear Eager enter the building behind her, and she noted the chuckle and whistle to himself as he saw the unconscious form of Dennis.

"Anything in here worth saving?" Eager asked her from the other room.

"Not much..." Boy responded, and then gestured towards Dennis, "...certainly not him."

Eager stepped to the doorway of the office, taking in the neglect that had overtaken the place under Phu's watch. "Lot of work here. What say we go grab a drink, get some sleep, and deal with this in the morning?"

"You go ahead, I'm gonna wait here for Mr. Phu to wake up. He get's to call The Goblin and give my report for me."

Eager knew better than to push his luck, so he turned and made his way out to the street, and eventually found Mezcal's.

On his way to the grime covered bar, he spied the notice board, littered with announcements. Pulling out a piece of paper The Goblin had given him before he and Boy had started the trip, he walked over to the board and pinned it up. Eager then proceeded to drink himself into oblivion.

Printed in big letters on the notice, "The Circus is coming!"

"Wonder if they have any tigers." Rebecca said, looking at a ragged bit of paper tacked up on the 'board.'

Chuckles rippled through the group seating themselves around the cantina.

Charles "Mecky" Mackie shook his head, watching their leader look over the notices and "Have you seens..." posted on the bulletin board found in every drinking hole across Evan. Rebecca "Remains" Wright was an imposing-looking woman. She'd taken the reins of the SlaughterHouse crew after the messy demise of the past leadership and had never looked back.

Now they were in Gateway. None of them were sure why, but when she said 'move,' well, you moved. They moved. So, it was what it was.

Their scouts had noted that no other gangs of any real note had taken up residence at the truck stop, so maybe that's what Rebecca had been looking for...room to run.

They'd had to shoot their way into the 'Gate,' dragging half again their number of salvage vehicles in through the fortified entry. Their big basher, "Wormwood," had plowed a path through the bad guys and the crew had cleaned up the rest.

Someone had enjoyed the show. When they'd gone to pick up some repair supplies at "The Bunker," the management informed them someone had 'tagged' a BPU for them. Hell of a price, so they'd snatched it up. BPU's weren't their usual fare, but hey, they came in handy sometimes.

Nice way to say 'hi,' he mused. Smiling.

"...probably far more clowns than tigers!" yelled Broderick "Brock" Brockington, the crew's rifle expert. "If there are any tigers, "Ole Spooky" here will take care of them!"

He patted the composite stock of the big WA2000 laying across his table. A cheer rippled through the crew. Along the left hand side of the stock was engraved "I'm sorry. Did I interrupt your concentration?"

Down the heavy barrel it read "Well, allow me to retort."

Rebecca sauntered over and joined her crew, smacking dust from her long-coat.

"I'm far too serious to worry about a bunch of red-nosed, bigfoots," she grinned. "I wonder if they do that clown-car thing?"

Another peal of laughter erupted from her grizzled crew.

Life was good, she thought. When it gives you apples, kick it in the balls and take what's in its pockets.
